Milan

"I don't think she's proposing Asp, she's already flying me out for my birthday- Wouldn't that be too much? There's no way she planned all of that without me knowing anything."

"Milan honey, she's not my girlfriend but even as my former boss I could tell you to never doubt that woman," Aspen chuckled. "But whatever happens, I want to know every little detail when you get back- first thing."

Staring out into the airport scene in thought as suitcases rolled and chatter traveled through the cooled air, my head shook against the phone on my ear. It'd been some days since Aspen and I last spoke, the two of us having busy lives and all, from time to time. And in these ten minutes we had while Noah was getting breakfast and coffee, there was so much to catch up on.

"Stop overthinking it Milan, I can hear your wheels turning through the phone."

Laughing to myself, my head tipped forward. "I just don't want to expect anything and then be wrong. Plus the thought of it, if she is, is making me extremely nervous..."

"Then don't expect anything, just be chill and go with the flow. Enjoy the trip and whatever comes with it, focus on that."

Nodding slowly, I chewed at my lip. "You're right..."

"I know sweetie, and I'll be happy to take your payment over the phone-"

"Shut up," I laughed again, rubbing at my forehead with a smiling sigh. "I still can't believe I'm doing this, I don't think I've seen so much snow in my life Asp."

"All the more reason to soak it all in and live in the moment my darling," she drew out with excitement. "And take tons of pictures so I can see and feel like I was there."

"Sure thing," I muttered absentmindedly, watching my girlfriend smile and laugh as she interacted with one of the baristas at the counter. Realizing I didn't hear Aspen's last words, I blinked a bit, looking away from the cafe. "I'm sorry what'd you say??"

"I said how long will you be gone from work?" she chuckled. "Do you have a case waiting for you when you get back?"

"More than likely," I answered. "She surprised me with this the day of my last trial. So I'll say maybe a week? Unless I get a call of urgency while out there."

"Alright well I'll be here waiting for you sweets. It's been too long since I've seen your beautiful face."

Smirking, I played along. "Aspen honey, I keep telling you it'll never happen, you've gotta get over this crush of yours."

Her dramatic sigh had me giggling while sitting up within my seat, spotting Noah ambling over with two bags and a tray.

"Never, you're my one and only darling, I simply can't survive without you."

"Tsk- A damn shame, and just when I thought I was getting a break from you-"

"I hate you-" she and I snickered. "Keep my updated, will you?
