Rose Hathaway was my Guardian?
That was all I could think about as I walked down back to my dorm room with Rose quietly in tow. I thought everyone knew Hathaway and I couldn't and wouldn't get along- why would Alberta even put Rose with me? What happened to the whole idea of Rose guarding Lissa? Wouldn't that have made everything more easier?
Something fishy was going on. First Dimitri gets assigned to Lissa, then Rose gets assigned to me. Would it be someone inside the Court feeling intimidated by the powerful image of Lissa and my coupling? Were they trying to break I and Lissa's bond by separating her and Dimitri and pairing up with me?
So many questions were swimming in my mind, I was practically drowning in them.
The fishiest thing happening today was definitely from Lissa. Years of isolation before Lissa and Rose came into my life, I was a loner. I taught myself how to read people's true thoughts by watching their different behaviours according to their emotions and studying their following actions. Thanks to my parents' history and my fellow schoolmates' stereotyping, I had become a very observant person. But if my observations were correct, Lissa had never intended for Rose to become her Guardian even before her name was called.
Judging by the way she walked, no, stalked up the stage in her killer stilettos suggested a huge dose of confidence of what would happen and pride directed at something no one but her- and whoever she told- would know. Under the vivid tones of the two main emotions she was displaying, a hint of guilt and sadness remained. Combined with my days spent with her just lazing around and doing boyfriend-girlfriend stuff, it was obvious that she had done something wrong, but she was proud of it.
And I will find out what she had done.
