As they passed a few neighbors coming home from work - and waved at a few kids coming home from school - Killian's hand rested on the small of Emma's back.

Goosebumps arose over her skin. Her breath caught in her throat, and a blush spread across her cheeks.

She breathed in and out slowly until they reached the lobby. A friend then waved at them as she walked through the door.

She joined them and offered a smile. "How are my two favorite neighbors?"

Emma managed a smile. "We're doing pretty good. Just heading off to work."

With a grin, Killian added, "I would say you and Thomas could join us, Ashley, but I'm afraid it's not an environment conducive to children."

He then reached out and tickled the little girl Ashley held in her arms. She giggled.

Ashley then spoke, "Well, if we ever do need a night out, we'll keep it in mind."

Her phone then rang. She reached into her pocket and grabbed it - just as Alexandra started to squirm.

"Honey, you're okay."

Ashley bounced her as she continued to squirm. The phone kept ringing.

Emma reached for Alexandra when Killian beat her to it. "Come now, little love." He bounced her in his arms.

"Let's let Mummy talk, shall we?"

Ashley mouthed "thank you" before she answered her phone call. Killian nodded as he continued to bounce the little girl - she only persisted in her wiggles.

He couldn't help but chuckle before he placed her down and then knelt in front of her.

"How about we play patty cake, hmm?"

As the two of them played, Emma found herself drawn to the scene. A smile made its way on her face as her heart swelled in her chest.

She only managed to look away when Ashley placed her phone back in her pocket. She then lifted Alexandra back in her arms.

"Did you have fun with Killian?"

At the little girl's squeal, the three of them laughed. Emma then spoke, "I guess that answers that, huh, kid?" She then tickled her, eliciting a giggle.

Ashley smiled at her friends. "Well, I will let you two get to work. I'll see you guys later - and thanks for the help, Killian."

He offered a nod before he and Emma bid their goodbyes as well. The two of them then made their way across the lobby.

Emma pushed her hair behind her ear. "You're really good with kids, you know."

"Hmm? Oh, I suppose I am."

He then reached around her to open the door. She walked through it - and he used his free hand to scratch behind his ear.

He took a breath before he followed her out onto the sidewalk. As they walked, he placed his hands in the pockets of his black jeans.

A smile made its way across his face as he started to sing.

"Oh, thinkin' about our younger years, there was only you and me, we were young and wild and free. Now nothing can take you away from me - we've been down that road before, but that's over now, you keep me comin' back for more."

He nudged her shoulder. "Come now, Swan, you know you must sing with me."

She played with her necklace. Her fingers rounded the circular pendant over and over again. She finally shrugged.

"I'm not much of a singer."

"Says the woman who always hums along to the musicians that sometimes play throughout the week."

"Humming is not singing - I'll leave all those 80s love ballads to you."

She rubbed her hands up and down her arms. "I still don't know why you always pick those."

"I should think it was quite obvious."

He then shot her a wink before he continued to sing. She shook her head before she took a deep breath.

She soon found herself humming along with him. She didn't have to look at him to know that he wore a smile.

A smile formed on her face as well. She twirled her hair as they continued along the sidewalk.

"Whoa!" she cried out as she tripped. Killian caught her arm as his other hand slipped around her waist.

"Are you alright, Emma?"

"Yeah, I'm okay. I thought this sidewalk would have been fixed by now."

"Well, darling, you'll have to take that up with Her Majesty."

She rolled her eyes. "And that's why she tolerates you."

"I dare say the feeling is mutual."

He stopped short of a chuckle when he realized he still held her. He released her and scratched behind his ear while she ducked her head and ran her fingers through her hair.

He took a breath. "As long as you're truly alright, love, we should probably head on to work."

She nodded. "I'm really okay. Let's get going."

He offered a nod as well before they continued to walk. He then let out a laugh.

Emma tilted her head and looked up at him. "What's so funny?"

"Well, love, there was a time where you and Regina just barely tolerated each other."

"She was overprotective of Robin and the bar. And my criminal record didn't help matters."

"Yes, well, your bastard ex-boyfriend is the reason you have a bloody record."

He then sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Apologies, Swan. I know you've long since forgiven him - and I suppose it's not rightly my business, but..."

She cut him off. "Hey, you're my best friend - and you care about what happens to me, even if it was before we met. I think it's sweet."

A smile crossed his features. "You're my best friend, too - and you know I will always be here for you."

His smile then changed to a grin. "But keep that bit to yourself, hmm? I do have a reputation."

"Sure thing, Killian. I'd hate for anyone to know you have a heart underneath all that bravado and flirting."

"Especially since I really only take my heart out for you, darling."

He then shot her a wink as the Rabbit Hole came into view. She blushed as he pulled out his keys. He unlocked the door, and they both headed inside.
