Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief. Blue then turned to Hope.
"Are you ready to be human again?"
"I want nothing more."
With a nod, the fairy aimed her wand at the teenage girl. She waved it as light engulfed Hope's tail - when it faded, her legs reappeared.
Hope let out a squeal of delight. "Oh, thank the gods! I don't think I've ever been so happy!"
She then faced Blue. "And thank you for helping us."
"Of course." She then took a breath. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be returning to the convent. This has been quite an adventure."
They all waved her off as she made her way off the beach. Snow and Charming then turned to their grandchildren, their arms crossed over their chest.
The siblings all exchanged a look before their gazes fell to the ground.
"Here comes the lecture."
"We're in trouble now."
"Surely it can't be worse than the mermaids?"
Snow and Charming both took a deep breath. She then began, "We hope you all now know that mermaids cannot be trusted."
They all nodded. Liam then spoke, "We're never gonna talk to another mermaid ever again."
He then tilted his head. "Except Ariel and Melody."
David rolled his eyes. "Melody isn't a mermaid. She's human."
"I think she's at least half mermaid, isn't she?"
"I don't think it works that way."
Hope groaned. "Liam! David! You're missing the bloody point!"
They furrowed their eyebrows. David crossed his arms over his chest.
"Hey, you got sucked in too! That's the reason they were able to turn you into a mermaid!"
"You and Liam were the ones who talked to them in the first place!"
Liam glared at his sister. "And you were supposed to help!"
Charming then intervened. "All of you are at fault. And now you've all learned your lesson."
Hope shifted on her feet. "So, does that mean you're not gonna tell Mom and Dad?"
Snow crossed her arms over her chest. "What do you think?"
The siblings all groaned before Charming added, "And we're gonna keep a closer eye on you until Emma and Hook get back from their anniversary trip."
He then cut his eyes toward the twins. They crossed their arms over their chest.
With a huff, David protested, "We don't need to be hovered over - we're not little kids."
Liam then tilted his head. "I mean, we did admit that all this was our fault."
His brother sighed. "Well, yeah - but that doesn't mean we should get drafted."
Charming rolled his eyes while Snow shook her head. Hope then told him, "As usual, you're over exaggerating."
"You're not much better. You charged down the beach like a bloody hurricane - and you say we're like Dad."
Hope glared at David. "Because you are! You're reckless and impulsive!"
"And you're bloody stubborn."
Snow placed her hands on their shoulders. "Let's just agree that all of you take after your parents."
She then took a deep breath. "And now, we should all get home - and have an uneventful afternoon."
"I'll say yes to that," Liam agreed, earning chuckles. He then nudged his brother and sister's shoulders. "Let's get the dune buggy."
They both nodded. David then tilted his head. "Which one of us is driving?"
Charming and Snow answered: "Hope." The teenage girl smiled while her brothers rolled their eyes.
The three of them then walked over to the dune buggy and hopped inside. Hope put it in gear before she drove the three of them home.
As she navigated the back roads, she let out a laugh. Liam tilted his head while David furrowed his eyebrows.
The former then questioned, "What's so funny?"
"This. Everything that happened with the mermaids. It is kind of funny when you think about it."
David crossed his arms over his chest. "Weren't you just yelling at us about all of this?"
"Actually, I think she was yelling at you," Liam interjected. His twin punched his arm.
Hope rolled her eyes. She then pointed out, "We did have our own little adventure."
"Yeah, well, it could have been a little less adventurous," David complained, his arms going back over his chest.
With a shrug, Liam pointed out, "At least we have a good story to tell Mom and Dad."
"A very good tale indeed," Hope agreed in a near-perfect imitation of their father's accent.
She then let out a chuckle. Her brothers rolled their eyes before they started to laugh as well.
Hope slowed down as their house came into view. She pulled to a stop in the garage before she and her brothers all climbed out.
As they bounded up the steps, the three of them talked about how to tell the story to Emma and Hook.
And how much like all the ones they heard growing up, this one also had a happy ending.
