[yoo-hoo, its 'it was only a kiss' but from kais perspective!! I'm rewatching ninjago to watch dr (I'm going to be completely honest with you guys, i have not seen a second of dragons rising. also the second half of crystalized.) and this idea came to me when i just finished toe... my beeloved season four... it has a special place in my heart, my first ever lava fanfics (rocky beds, maybe one day you'll see the world outside my English notebook from first year), sensei garmadon, my absolutely beeloved... kai and skylor, the ride-or-dies, the for-lifers... anyways, I'm yapping. i hope you guys are doing well and for everybody who is still sticking around and leaving comment or just reading, I'm sorry im not posting much lately, my focus has been on multi-chapter fics as complex and elaborate stories have always been my goal. i love you, genuinely, I'm not sure where i would be had it not been for the support I've been receiving.]

Eyes stuck to the spot where he had last seen her, Skylor's words kept echoing in Kai's mind. She might be gone, on her way now, but it was as if her presence remained by his side, almost pushing him to look the other way.

"You were right, Kai," she told him, hand covering his mouth instead of her lips. "You are far too fetching to resist. Just... not for me."

His gaze trailed back to the sulking black ninja, just like it did when she was beside him. Once again he wondered what had gotten into him. How come his previous cheerfulness washed away in a jiffy. One moment they are all celebrating together, the next he is apart from everyone, by himself, body language speaking of discontent.

Kai watched Jay approach, a conversation ensuing.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Her eyes turned from Cole back to him, a faint, crooked smile on her lips. "I think Cole is the one you've been chasing, not me."

"What?" he screeched then, too caught up in her words to feel embarrassed for the high pitch of his voice. "No way. Wha– No. How'd you come up with that idea?" Even now, when it became a recent memory, he was mad at her amused face, her self-satisfied smile as if she was proud to know.

"Pretty difficult not to when you two have eyes just for each other."

"No we don't. You have eyes for each other."

Jay left, judging by his slouched pose, empty-handed with success – Cole seemed to be doing even worse than before. The sight tugged at his heart strings once again and this time there was no other force holding him back. He did not have an excuse to falter, to hesitate. He was torn up until now.

Only one can remain.

Only Cole stood there, Skylor left to do her own thing.

"It's fine. You can't control love like we control different elements. But we can let it lead us. Master knows it led me out of the dark. Now it can lead you to happiness. And I'm not going to stay in the way of that, you deserve it, Kai."

"But how did–"

"I'm not stupid. I've seen the look in his eyes. I've seen the look in yours..."

He had him at an arm's reach but Kai let his hand drop instead. Coward.

"Hey, um..." Come on, Kai, you're better than that! "Cole?"

"Now what?" he fumed before turning around, making Kai's heart skip a beat. Was it because that was just Cole's effect on him or was it because even after everything they have endured and went through, he was afraid?
