iv. 𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥

"Senator Kelly. I'm Professor Charles Xavier."

Kelly was lying on the examination table, as Jean tried to figure out what was wrong with him. He had deep, dark green veins running up and down his arms.

"I was afraid if I went to a hospital, they would-"

"Treat you like a mutant?" Charles asked. "We're not what you think. Not all of us."

"Tell it to the ones who did this to me" Kelly breathed out.

Charles moved so he could sit behind him. "Senator. I want you to try and relax" he said, trying to use his powers to understand what happened to him.

What he found out was terrifying.

Bringing them all to his office he explained to them what he saw. Magneto's experimentation.

"The machine emits radiation that triggers mutation in ordinary human beings," he said.

"But the mutation is unnatural. Kelly's body is rejecting it. His cells began to break down almost immediately" Jean said, having run some tests on the senator.

"Eden, can you reverse it?" Charles asked.

Eden looked down at the files containing all of the senator's test results. "Maybe. I mean the usual effect of radiation is cell degradation. Affecting their ability to divide and grow. Sometimes ionizing radiation can induce mutation in DNA but it's not supposed to produce new ones, just enhance the ones that naturally occur in every living thing."

"English, sweetheart," Logan said.

Eden looked up at him, rolling her eyes. "I really hope all the power that skipped your brain went somewhere more useful."

"You wanna find out?" he asked.

"What effect does the radiation have on mutants?" Scott asked, annoyance laced in his voice.

"None. But any normal person exposed to it...I mean looking at Kelly's chart I'm surprised he's still alive" Eden said.

"So what does Magneto want with Rogue?" Logan asked.

"I don't know" Charles sighed.

Logan grabbed his jacket, angrily ready to leave again when Scott stopped him. "Wait a second. You said this machine draws its power from Magneto, and that it weakened him."

"Yes," Charles said, realizing what Scott was getting at. "In fact, it nearly killed him."

"He's gonna transfer his power to Rogue and use her to power the machine," Logan said.

"Cyclops, you, Storm, and Flora ready the jet. I'm gonna find Rogue" Charles said. "Jean, get Logan a uniform."

"Whoa, wait a minute. He's not coming with us, is he?" Scott asked.
