Haru

I should have seen this coming. Scaramouche was laughing and smiling like a normal person, it was almost too good to be true. Now he was back to his cold and harsh self.

"Just leave." He said curtly, his expression stony and cold once again.

He had suddenly turned cold and distant again. If he was upset about something I couldn't tell what it was at all. Had I done something wrong?

"Fine." I replied curtly with a cold glare.

His sudden shift in behavior confused me. I let out a little huff before turning around and walking away from him.

The next few days he was colder and harsher to me which made me believe that perhaps I had in fact done something wrong while we laid on the grass that day. My heart fluttered every time I remembered his face when he laughed. That feeling when I looked into his eyes was something I had never felt before. I think I knew what it was at the moment but I refused to acknowledge it. Regardless, if he was going to treat me this way, I was going to show him that I can too. So I was also rather distant and professional with him. The colder he got, the colder I got.

"Here are the letters that require your signature, My Lord. " I said without any emotion before placing the papers on his desk.

He replied with a small huff and didn't even bother looking at the letters. This was infuriating me. I sighed to myself before turning to leave.

"Goodnight, My Lord. " I said stoically as I took my leave.

The next day, the air was cold as we both sat at our desks. It was like a cold War between us now. I couldn't help but occasionally glanced at him. I was upset with him. His behavior always infuriated me. He was the one who snapped at me when everything was going alright so I refused to be the first one to try and fix things.

He would occasionally glance at me as well. The silence was so thick it was almost painful. We hadn't gone through something like this before and it didn't seem like either of us liked it. But I wasn't going to be the first one to address the elephant in the room. He has to learn that his words and actions have consequences and that he is not better than everyone else. Although, I doubt he even cared.

The tension between us was unbearable and it was almost as if we might explode from all the built-up emotions. I could tell that something was bothering him and he was just keeping it all bottled up just like I was. Suddenly he stood up from his chair and walked over to my desk. I looked up at him and blinked. I wasn't expecting this at all.

"Is something the matter, my Lord?" I asked with a fake smile.

"Come with me. Now." He said in an irritated tone.

He clearly had something on his mind. Maybe he was trying to be the better person here. Still, I was headstrong about ignoring him.

"But my duties require me here at this desk, going through these reports. Those were the orders you gave me. " I coldly ignored him and started doing the task he had given me before.

"Those reports can wait." He snapped back at me, his irritation growing.

He stood right next to my desk and slammed his palm onto the table making me jump.
