How? How was he standing straight after getting stabbed like that? I was shocked. I was so shocked that I backed away in fear. I realized what this meant. He wasn't human.
"It wasn't deep." He replied in a calm voice.
No emotion or distress coated his tone. The only thing close to emotion was that he winced a little in pain. He wasn't human but he still felt pain? My heart ached as I thought about how painful the wound must be.
He looked down at the slight cut and he didn't even bother to try and tend to it. He grabbed my arm and started walking towards the carriages. He didn't even wait for me to respond. He just dragged me along.
"Wait." I pulled my arm away.
"You are lying. I know what I saw. The sword went through you.. How can you have not shed a single drop of blood? What.. are you? " I frowned unknowingly which made his expression change.
His expression darkened at my question. His cold and stoic facade was fading away as he stopped and looked at me. It was now a dangerous expression that threatened me.
"You shouldn't have asked that. " He said in a low voice laced with irritation.
"Why are you so interested in questioning my identity? " He asked me in a harsh tone.
Did he not want me to find out? Was it something he didn't like being asked about? I couldn't bear to think that I had upset him to the point that he was mad at me. I shouldn't have asked that. Whatever it was, he seemed more angry than ever before and it was all directed at me. If there was one thing I hated, it was being yelled at. I saw him glare at me as my chest heaved from anxiety.
"I just-" I tried fixing it but it was too late as he snapped back.
"It doesn't matter. Let's go. " He walked past me to the carriages, gesturing for his subordinates to leave as well.
I was scared of him now. More than I already was of course. I would have been fine with him just ignoring me or giving me the cold shoulder but he kept giving me intimidating glares whenever he looked at me. He also kept ordering me to redo whatever work he had given. I on the other hand kept trying to apologize. I was feeling like I had done something terribly wrong on that day we laughed together. But he never even let me talk before he gave me another order.
The next day I was gloomy during dinner time. Ania noticed that it was very unlike me to not enjoy eating my meal.
"What's wrong? You have barely touched your food. " Ania spoke to me as I lazily moved the grains of rice with my chopsticks.
"It's nothing.. I think I have upset someone and I don't think they want to let me apologize. " I sighed.
Ania took one look at Scaramouche who was sitting at a secluded table in the Hall and realized that I was talking about him.
"Oh? What happened to not taking anything he says to heart? " Ania chuckled but her laughter died when she noticed my grim expression.
"Hey, perhaps you should try to talk to him after a bit. Maybe he just needs space for now. " She spoke while placing an egg roll on my bowl of rice.
"He is always like this! I don't know how I can fix something if I don't know what's wrong with it." I sighed in frustration as I aggressively chewed on some rice with a frown.
"Then don't apologize. "
"Huh? " I turned to her in confusion.
"Just give him the cold shoulder too. If he does in fact care, he will come to you first. Right now he thinks that you will keep trying to make things right by apologizing so it's just boosting his ego. " Ania smirked as he sipped on her tea. Ania sure was smart when it came to these kinds of stuff. She always told me stories about her past relationships so I was going to take her word for it.
