On the morning of the third task, Cedric Diggory kissed Elvira in front of the packed great hall. Dorothea had been told that they'd argued about Cho, and no matter how much he reassured her, Elvira had been reluctant to believe that they were done. Dorothea laughed along with Priscilla and Lilith at the sight, the Slytherin table once again in good spirits, always being able to move past things easily. In fact, the entire great hall was chatting across houses, laughing, and celebrating Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory, whooping as the Hufflepuff boy kissed the Slytherin girl.
A Hogwarts win seemed certain.
At the Gryffindor table, Fred had an arm over Oliver's shoulder, jostling him as the rest of the table loudly shouted across the hall. Dorothea watched the two boys, meeting Oliver's eye and then him quickly looking away.
"Cheer up, who knows what'll happen in this task! If he dies, you've no competition!" Fred joked to his friend, turning and waving at Elvira who was making her way over with Stefan and Leila Davies.
"Hope you told him to fuck up Harry," George grinned at Elvira, winking at Ron and Hermione who glowered, both looking a little sick.
"Of course," she giggled.
"Shall we?" Leila asked with a smile. "We want to get good seats."
"Where's Thea?" Elvira asked, looking over to the Slytherin table. Fred, George, Lee and Oliver stood up, laughing and jostling each other, missing the sour expression on Leila's face.
"With Ezra."
"I want her to watch with us."
"Elvira, she's with Ezra," Leila snapped.
"Come on, Vi," Fred grinned, putting an arm over the witch's shoulders. "You'll live without her."
Dorothea stood with her arms crossed, looking fairly miserable, with Priscilla, Lilith and Ezra. The boy had his arm around her as she stood stiffly, staring at the not-moving maze. There were jeers and shouts when red sparks eventually shot up, but otherwise, once again, the witch wondered what the point was in the entire school staring at a not moving maze.
"Finally some fucking action," Priscilla sighed, rolling her eyes at Dorothea as a few professors darted into the maze towards the red sparks.
"These tasks just get stupider," the blonde witch sighed, shrugging her shoulders so that Ezra's arm fell off where it rested on her.
"Ten galleons its Fleur," Ezra grinned, winking at Camille who stood behind with Manon and Marcus, refusing to let Dorothea's coldness ruin the much anticipated day.
The French witch rolled her eyes but knew that he was probably right. Beauxbatons hadn't shown much success in the tournament. Camille was glad to have stayed, her mother had written to her several times, requesting for her to come home, but she refused. Truthfully, to try to heal her relationship with Dorothea following their argument.
"I put money on Cedric too," Camille shrugged, ignoring Manon's scoff beside her, watching Dorothea's face for any reaction.
"Wonder what's in there," Lilith mused, standing on her tiptoes as if hoping to see over the maze's high walls.
"It can't be worth us staring at it for hours on end," Dorothea sighed, slightly moving away from Ezra so that she wasn't touching him, feeling increasingly irritated by his closeness as she got more annoyed at the stupidity of the third task.
"Where's your school spirit, Rosier?" He grinned, his good mood apparently not affected.
A few rows away, the lack of action did not seem to be affecting the mood. Some younger Gryffindors had taken it upon themselves to make up endless Hogwarts chants, and had been non-stop screaming them at the maze. Elvira stood chatting to Oliver about his quidditch, she'd practiced with him a couple of times now, and he'd told her that she ought to trial too, that he was sure that she could when he did. Post-Hogwarts was tricky for Elvira. Her sister had just graduated from muggle university, and that had seemed so fun. She loved her world of magic, but still felt that something was changing, and she wasn't sure how safe she felt as a muggleborn.
