maeve pov.

lando's presence was a complete surprise to me. niamh didn't tell me he'd be coming, and i'm sure this was all her doing. what are the odds for him to drop by on the only day i didn't have anyone to stay with niamh because work came up spontaneously that i couldn't do from home.

nevertheless, it was good to have him around. niamh had been smiling non stop since she woke up and this explained why. i was just happy to see her happy.

the past week, since silverstone... niamh hadn't spoken to me much about things. we were cleaning out the house, getting rid of a lot of old junk and a few things came out of the storage that had completely been erased from my memory until i saw them again.

those got niamh talking again, about things other than lando and ashton. ever since lando dropped her back off to the hotel room last to last weekend, she'd only been asking questions about ashton and talking about what she did with lando all weekend.

i'd told her last night that we might stop seeing ashton around. she asked me if we'd broken up and i told her that it was very likely. i knew it's not easy to just call it off, since there's no way to cut contact because i'm practically stuck talking to him till all of this is over.

she sounded rather pleased with it and it made me realise that it could probably be one of the things that bothered her.

"did you not like ashton?" i asked her as we went through my old books, seperating them into keep and donate piles. "he's not all that great. i mean, he sort of is a little too boujee in an odd way" i realised she was talking about the pearls and fancy home decor he'd gifted me over the years.

niamh thought that i didn't like them, i didn't have the heart to tell her that it was the life i was meant to live. kids, dont realise where they belong in society.

nobody who is born 'rich' knows it until they see the ones who're different from who they are.

i was surprised to know she found ashton boujee but lando's tastes were just fine. it was an interesting debate she had with herself while i sorted through the books, letting out an occasional chuckle at her peculiar choice of descriptors.

safe to say, niamh would probably defend lando better than any lawyer could. it also made me realise that, i may have always looked at ashton through a filtered lense but niamh hadn't and she'd been quite honest about it.

"a kid's instinct is often better than a mother's." was something lando's mum had told me. it was around the time we'd broken up and niamh wasn't interested in being with either one of us if we weren't in the room together. it took a while to get her accustomed to being around just the one of us and it hurt me.

because it was no different now.

somethings did stay the same...

i could feel lando's gaze on me when he walked into the kitchen in this morning. i couldn't see his eyes because his cap cast a shadow over the top half of his face but i could feel his eyes on me nevertheless.

it was refreshing to see him in blue, he'd rarely wear it but it suit him well. i smiled when i recognised the cross he was wearing until i noticed niamh looking at me with a grin while lando spoke. i'd packed up my laptop and quickly made my way out the door, realising that i was pondering over lando.

"bye bye tinkerbell, next time atleast tell me" i whisper to niamh who just giggled and bid me a good bye.

and now here i was, over 9 hours later , finally being done with all my work.

i'd been asked to do the intern reviews for this summer's intern projects right as i'd gotten done with my presentation for the children's theatre that reece had been designing on behalf of the team.
