lando pov.
i couldn't quite explain my emotions right now. winning the championship took a few days to sink in and it would probably hit me once i recieved my trophy but this was so much bigger than anything in my life right now.
this was the first time i was going to one of niamh's school events with her as her dad.
more so, a dance.
i had never been to a school dance in my life, except for perhaps maeve's winter formal back in her sixth form as her date. we'd left niamh at home with mum for it and it was the first time i was recognised in a crowd in a way that i stood out. i was hoping that wouldn't be the case today.
i'd planned the best evening for niamh, or so i hoped. i was going to come by to maeve's earlier but a last minute meeting ran late and i had a few interviews to film. the fia awards were this weekend and the week following it we'd be wrapping up our filming with netflix until i was officially free from work and would get to spend my break with my family, and maeve.
i had brought out my mclaren, after careful consideration. maeve had suggested against it initially but, to be fair there wasn't much to argue about it. i own a mclaren, i work with them and niamh loved the blue cars of mine. besides, nothing wrong with arriving in style.
looking at the small bouquet of flowers, i smiled to myself as i enjoyed the warmth of a the car for a few moments more before stepping out into the cool air of the parking lot and making my way to the elevator.
i rang the doorbell to maeve's apartment and almost combusted with joy when i heard the door open.
niamh stood on the other side in a full sleeved- blue dress that flared down to below her knees. maeve joined her, standing behind with her phone up. "you're here!" niamh exclaimed and i smiled, extending arm to twirl her around.
"you look beautiful sweetheart. just like your mum" i said, kissing her cheek and winking at maeve who hummed. niamh smiled and i handed her the bouquet.
"for me or for mum?" she asked me in a whisper and my jaw dropped. "cheeky- did you get taller?" i asked, noticing the sudden loss of height difference between her and maeve as pressed her cheek against maeve's shoulder.
"i'm wearing mum's heels actually" niamh said and i looked down to her feet at smiled at maeve just shook her slightly.
"shall we go?" i asked niamh, curling up my arm and she nodded, hooking arms with mine and turning around to say bye to maeve.
"wait-let me get a picture of this" maeve said and i smiled, tilting my head toward niamh who gave maeve a very childish toothy smile. "cute, but now a nice one. kind of formal, just for a record" she said and i stood up straighter and niamh stuck her tongue out before posing nicely anyways.
"perfect, now" maeve leaned down to kiss niamh's cheek and whispered something to her which she noded. "do i get one too?" i asked softly when maeve stood right in front of me. her eyes gazed into mine and she smiled. "you have a date tonight" she said, looking at niamh from the corner of her eye. "that i do" i replied with a nod.
"i don't mind, though" we heard niamh say and maeve snickered. "uh huh" i said and maeve clicked her tongue before flattening out the collars of my blazer and pecking my lips. it was a quick kiss but enough to make niamh coo, not enough for me but i'll take it.
we were gonna take things slow until maeve had all of her family things figured out, but i don't think we could actually end up taking it that slow. especially when i have 2 months of cancelled plans because i'd promised niamh. stealing a few kisses here and there is what would keep me going quite frankly.
