maeve pov.

"niamh, have you seen my phone?"

it was new year's eve, we'd been back from bristol for 2 days, just enough time to unpack only to think about packing again.

with niamh's competition dates, we'd decided to prepone our visit to the usa which meant we had another few weeks of travelling ahead of us.

however, tonight wasn't about that, niamh was spending her new years at bella with a few of her friends, and lando had been invited to the grid's new years party that was conveniently in london, quite the coincidence.

"it's charging by your bedside maa!" niamh said when i got to her room to see her pinning her hair back with these adorable beaded bobby pins, looking quite relaxed.

"right- is that my watch?" i asked, noticing the thin black band around her wrist and she gave me sheepish look. "yeah, were you gonna wear it tonight?" she asked, fixing her pin in the mirror before turning to look at me.

she looked so grown up right now, all of a sudden, perhaps it was the fact that her elegance had followed her off the stage since her ballet rehearsal. her dance peers were girls who were much older than her, and it was understandable that she'd see different things from school there, but atleast she was picking up on the nicer parts of it.

"you can wear it nini, i was just making sure otherwise i might just go around looking for it without knowing you had it. what time did your dad say he's coming?" i asked her while tugging at the belts of my dress that she got up to help me with with a grin.

"like, in another 10 minutes?" she said and i gasped.

unpacking, wasn't quite as glamourous.

the house was a mess.

i was supposed to get some order back but niamh had convinced me to nap with her since she wanted to stay up all night without getting cranky about it.

now i was gonna get cranky if someone saw my house like this, even if it was lando because, this, was bad. we didn't even pack that much for switzerland?

"niamh! get ready quickly and put away all of those extra clothes your took out to try on. just, get your room in order and the living room if you get the time, please" i tell her and she nodded, holding my hands.

"chill a little maa, dad's apartment's been way worse." she tries to reassure me and i took a deep breath. "i'm sure his apartment wasn't scattered with shoes and bras across the bed now was it? would it hurt to be just a little bit more organised?" i tell her and she shrugged.

"i mean, its kinda difficult to figure what works with this dress without kinda showing. i get why you have so many now." niamh said and i sighed, shaking my head, counting down the minutes till lando's here.

i hope there's traffic.

i'd been running around the apartment barefoot, stuffing the clothes and books that had been laying around into the bags, dragging all the refilled suitecases and lining then in the corner of my bedroom. i guess i'd start the new year by decluttering tomorrow.

"where do i put these?" niamh asked, walking into my room with a short stack of clothes with 2 novels on top of it while i was doing my makeup in the bathroom.

"just leave them on my bed, and i found your lipgloss by the way" i called out and she walked into the bathroom moments later with huff and picking up the tube of clear gloss that she'd learned to adore. she wasn't a fan of a lot of makeup, since she'd do it for the stage anyways, she had her moments of curiousity and i just let her be, exploring.
