late update
have a really busy month ahead- not proofreadlando pov.
"niamh nora's parents?" the receptionist asked and we nodded with both of our ids laid out.
2 hours and we made it to the hospital. niamh was alright, i hoped. she'd been a bit too ill and was admitted in whilst waiting for her test results.
savannah had been here with niamh whilst oliver and mila had been back home. visiting hours had been over and the hospital itself had been in a lot of chaos it seemed but sav had it under control.
maeve had been dead silent since we left the room in paris. i couldn't quite pick up on what she was thinking but it surely wasn't good. she'd been texting someone and her face had been getting paler everytime she'd check her phone. we'd packed and left almost immediately after oliver cut the call. his call brought us both to face our realities.
"there you are" sav said, stepping out of the room. "i was just about to call you" she said, wrapping her arms around maeve. "can we talk first?" she asked maeve who looked at me
"you sure?" i asked and she nodded. "she'll be happy to see you, let her have that high right now" maeve said and i hesistantly nodded and made my way into the room.
i walked into the room and sighed at the sight of niamh. if you ignore the ipad sitting in her lap, it did look really dull as she mindlessly played tetris on it until she spot me as i placed my bag down on the floor.
"dad! you're here? is mom...here?" she asked while sitting up straight and i smiled. "yeah she's talking to savannah. right outside. she'll be here in a minute." i say to her while taking a seat on the stool beside the bed and grabbing her non-i.v hand to place a kiss on the back of her palm.
"how're you feeling sweetheart?"
"fine, i guess?" she let out a cough and i frowned. "what's on your mind?" i knew savannah would brief maeve with what's wrong, but as far as i knew, it was low blood sugar. i was internally panicking and seeing niamh's face drained of all colour didn't make it any better but atleast we were with her now.
"i didn't know you'd come. don't you leave for vegas like, tomorrow?" she asked, her voice cracking a bit as she let out of a cough.
"yeah, but tomorrows kinda far." i say to her and she smiles a bit until her face drops when she looks at the door. i turned around to see nobody there. "why that look?" i asked and she shook her head.
"no it's just. rory works here. he probably didn't recognise me but i know him. mom might see and that's really not a very good thing. how was france? auntie mels said you went to paris...with mom. was it a date?" i chuckled and shook my head, making a mental note that we could run into her younger brother. i swear he'd been in primary school or something back when i last saw him..
"we're not going there right now. you said you saw rory, huh? i didn't realise he's old enough to be a resident doctor" i tell her and niamh snickered.
"you're kinda old, you know" she said and i scoffed. "uh huh. i hope you remember i have half the rights to saying yes for a dog" i jokingly warn her and she zips her lips. "mm hmm " she hummed and i poke her dimple, earning a giggle.
we just sit there quietly for a moment until she huffs and fixes her blanket. i frown and help her adjust it, picking up the ipad and placing it down on the side safely.
"sweetheart, what happened? what's up" i try to ask, not able to avoid the topic any longer.
since speaking to maeve earlier this weekend, i was consiously noticing changes in niamh. her face was sunken and there was no shine in her eyes like there usually would be when we'd talk. maeve was right, she'd been a lot colder.i couldn't quite understand what could possibly pull her away that harshly from who she used to be.
