"i'm what?" maeve said when doctor told her she's about 4cm dilated. "what the fuck is that supposed to mean- mom!" she exclaimed, tears rolling down her face as her mother pushed back her hair. "it's okay, i've asked if we could get you a c-section. i don't want you to suffer either darling" she says and maeve bites on her bottom lip, looking at the white ceilings of the hospital room. she'd gotten an epidural and a private room. that's the least her parents offered to do for her.
"mr.norris is outside" a nurse informed and maeve's mother nodded. "do you want that boy here?" all maeve saw was red. she was only getting used to the small bump, since her pregnancy didn't show much but she knew what she'd given up. "sure. why not. atleast he's here" she mumbles, wiping her tears.
lando and maeve hadn't been on the best terms the past couple of months. maeve had only found out she was pregnant when she was more than halfway through the pregnancy. she'd told lando immediately ofcourse, since she was with her mom at a hospital when she found out, who was naturally adamant to know if it was her 'boyfriend' or not.
lando's been having a great season start, having already won a tournament. he's been doing well in formula renault as well. she sees him walk in, wearing black jean and a grey hoodie, his hair frizzy and some of it sticking to his forehead. he looked worried and exhausted. maeve only felt worse because she thought she can't even be angry at him in the moment. "i'll leave you two be-" maeve held her hand, not having a good feeling. she could tell her mother wasn't happy, most parents wouldn't be if they were to get their seventeen year old to give birth. maeve knew the expression was deeper than that and was afraid to be left alone. "i'll be right outside. i'm not going anywhere until that baby is out" she tells her and maeve nods. lando looks around awkwardly before taking the stool and sitting down on it.
maeve looked at lando, reaching out her hand to pat his head, gently brush through his tangled hair. "i'm ...i really don't know what to say" he said to her, rubbing his palms on his face. "how was your race?" she asked and he smiled a little. "p1" he replied.
he skipped out on the details of his heart racing and his brain pushing him to finish the race as soon as possible to be able to get here in time. he'd heard his father talking to maeve's mother right before the race and he knew what it was about, otherwise his dad would've told him.lando sped through everything, keeping everything quick and short. going to the extent of changing in the car while his dad drove him here to save on time.
"that's nice." "does...does it hurt?" he asked and she looked at the small bump that was covered with a blanket. "not right now, no. they gave me an epidural... basically like anaesthesia of a sort..i think?" he nods. "about what i said last week-" "you're right. i really don't want to fight about it right now. i'm in a really pissy mood already" maeve warns him and he purses his lips, holding back his words.
last week, when they were talking about what it would be like for them with the baby, maeve realised how unprepared they really were. lando had just dropped out of school, working with private tutors instead. he was rarely ever home and with new training academy approaching him, it was very unlikely that he'd be able to be with her anyways. maeve being the mother, already accepted the fact that she'd need to give up on things other than her academics. to her, her education was priority in the moment. it might not work on in the direction she wanted it to be in, but she knew she'd do it, whether it was with or without lando.
fear had never left the two, chasing them down in every breathing moment since 3 months ago.
"do you want something? juice, water" lando asked, his face slowly returning to it's normal colour, no longer flushed. "my bottle's in the bag. you should go wash your face lan, cool off"he hands her the bottle and slowly reaches to touch her belly. "do you think she'd going to look like you?" he asked while maeve took a small sip, having been instructed to not have a lot. "no lando, she's going to look like blake lively instead" she said and lando broke out a smile.
