When I woke up all I felt was a sharp pain, at least until my foggy memory regained clarity. Zander was lying beside me, so I shook him to wake him; at the same time Zander got up, Fig woke up as well. "Are the two of you alright? Oh...hold on, don't move Ren," Fig said as he looked over at me. I didn't truly see why I was in pain, but the minute he brought it to my attention, it was as if my thigh was on fire. Zander grabbed my hand and told me to squeeze as Fig pulled something out of my leg. "Here, this will help with the pain and heal you up a lot quicker," Fig said as he handed me a glass vial of lime green liquid. Not hesitating for a moment, I downed the liquid; it had a slightly sour taste, but it wasn't too bad.
"What did you give her?" Zander asked, gasping as he looked at my wound closing up to the point where it was just a small scar. "Where are we?" I asked as Zander and Fig both helped me up. "It looks as if we're in some sort of cave?" I said as I walked towards the entrance. I gasped as I left the cave and saw a huge castle, balancing precariously on this random rock formation in the middle of the sea, the waves crashing against the shore below us. "It looks as if we're somewhere in the Scottish Highlands...but how did we get here?" Fig answered as he looked out at the scene with a look of pure 'awe'.
"Well, do you guys mind if we take a look around? After all, it seems that this place could hold the answers that my wife, and now George, died in order to find; I feel like I owe them," Fig said, sighing as he looked down. "As long as we make it to Hogwarts in one piece, that's fine with me," Zander explained as I nodded in agreement. "Alright. Watch your step, the rocks are a little slippery. Be on the lookout for any hints or things out of place. Or any magical swirls," Fig said as he looked at us, looking at me specifically when he said 'magical swirls'.
We started walked through the rock trails, climbing over a couple rock edges, bringing us in front of a broken down bridge. Fig repaired the bridge with magic. As we crossed the bridge, it placed us in an overgrown courtyard sitting at the very back of the castle. From a distance it looked more put together and elegant, but once we got there, it seemed more like ruins. "Have a look around; if you guys find anything just let me know," Fig said as he turned to look at a statue, reading the inscription. I walked through an archway and saw some sort of glossy surface. It was smooth like rock, not nearly as thin as ice, and yet, I could see a room in it. "Professor! Zander! I think I found something. Come take a look," I called, waiting patiently for them to come over to me.
"Ren, I don't see anything, what are you talking about?" Zander asked, gesturing at the wall and glancing at me. "No really, there's a room. Look, right behind the swirl printed on the rock" I said as I put my hand on the swirls, causing it to flash and reveal the room that I saw in the rock itself. "Whoa, wait a minute. I don't believe it. We've somehow ended up at Gringotts, like a portkey but not quite the same," Fig interjected, surprise clearly layering his voice. "Gringotts? And that is?" I asked before my question was interrupted by a small rough voice: "It's the wizarding bank. Vault 12 I presume? May I see your key?" Fig dug for the key and handed it to the guard, him leading us towards this mine car that seemed to be on two rails that reminded me of a roller coaster.
As we were going, we stopped briefly to tell the vault number to a random guard, but I was definitely put off by the luminescent glow of red, not blue, on the guards arms. The goblin guard who took us to our vault seemed kind enough, at least until he locked us in said vault. "Hmmm, so, what now?" Zander asked as we looked around the tiny alcove. "Alright magic seeker, do you see anything swirling and glowing?" Zander asked with a slightly sarcastic, humored remark. "Oh wait, yes I do. Over here!" I exclaimed as I led them through a glowing archway. "Oh, I see a reflection of a knight in the floor," I said as I gestured towards a general area.
Fig had a light coming out of his wand and it seemed as the knight was 'following' the light. "Professor Fig, it seems to be following your wands' light; what was that revealing charm again?" I asked before Fig reminded me. After I cast 'Revelio', the knight appeared in front of us. He then taught me how to cast 'Lumos', and once I did, the knight followed me and a line appeared on the floor. As soon as I stood on it, the knight rose up and came to life. Before I knew it, we were in a full out 'war' with these random knights. "Protego!" I shouted as one knight tried to hit me with his staff.
I ran to Zanders' aid just as Professor Fig vanished, and then suddenly he vanished as well. "Professor Fig, Zander!? Where'd you go? Guys!?" I shouted, casting 'Lumos' and trying to find my way out. Suddenly, I heard some jingling and felt some sort of weird tremor, suddenly surrounded by luminescent blue swirls and then, more knights to face on my own. After a few cuts, bruises, blocks, and flashes of color, all of the knights were "killed" and I found another magical arch to walk through. I saw a chest and a bird bath looking thing, before seeing some sort of metallic object over the 'bird bath'.
I grabbed the object before being interrupted by my brother and Professor Fig. "Oh good, you're safe. What have you got there?" Fig exclaimed as Zander ran over to me, making sure that I actually was okay. "I'm fine Zander, I promise. What is this Professor Fig? What do we do now?" I asked Fig. "That's a pensive; you can view peoples' memories in it. All you do is put your face in it; don't worry, you'll still be able to breathe, it's just how you view them," he answered.
*First Pensive Memory*
Rackham's POV:
"'Look at that poor hamlet, it's completely barren and dry; we have to help them. Alright Percival, go ahead, we'll follow,' Niamh said as I put my wand in the air, summoning a downpour of rain over the entire hamlet. There was an older man with two young children at a well, one looking up at the four wizards on the hillside in awe, and the other child looking a little worse for wear. There wasn't a lot of talking after that, only the restoration of the whole town covered in green grass and beautiful crops decorating the hamlet."
*End of Memory*
"So there has been more people like me? That's un-" I replied, only to have my brother clamp his hand over my mouth as we heard angry voices walking towards the vault room. "Why hello there. And you are in the vault because why exactly?" the goblin, Ranrok, said in his raspy voice. Even I had to admit, his voice alone gave me the creeps, the red glow just added to his aura of creepy. "Sir, I must insist. You cannot be in here; they had the key, you didn't-" the first guard we met said, before he was cut off by Ranrok using magic to slam him to the ground, killing him quickly. "So, are we going to have a deal, Professor?" Ranrok commanded, resulting in Fig saying 'no' in a strict, firm voice.
"Well, maybe your young friend(s) will be more...cooperative," he said, his icy gaze turning to me. "Never. I'll never submit to you," I spoke in a tone that matched his gave, pointing my wand towards him. Suddenly, red magic flew at us, Fig successfully holding the magic back for a minute; at least until it caused the three of us to fly backwards. Zander hit the floor first, so when he re-gained his footing, he slowed Fig and I down a little bit. Just when we thought we'd meet the same fate as the kind-hearted goblin, a huge knight rose from out of the floor, targeting Ranrok and some of his loyalists.
"Alright, we have to find our way out of here," I said, running to a corner. As soon as I found the way out, I shouted towards Fig and Zander, catching their attention at the right time because they were about to be crushed by a falling boulder. "Alright, hold onto my arm, let's go!" I shouted as we went through the portal, safe from the chaos back in the room.
