Away From Prying Eyes

"Well, I did tell you most of it already, but I really just wanted to talk to you more about my magic. It's intense, hard to describe really, but it almost feels like an inferno beneath my skin. With Fig's help, and the extra assignments I receive from the professors and/or extra missions I send myself on in order to help friends...all those things are helping me to control my magic. Well...relatively," I trailed off, smirking slightly because I just didn't know how to best describe it. Fortunately for me, Seb knew exactly the right question to ask in order to get my mind moving on it again. "What do you mean you can 'relatively' control the ancient magic? Also, I know that Rookwood didn't 'mistake' you for anyone else, just based on the fact of how persistent he'd been to get to you. What did you do to get on his bad side? He leads some of the darkest witches and wizards, including Ashwinder Executioners...I wouldn't want to cross in the midst of even one of their paths, and I'm fairly good at dueling," he said, raising an eyebrow at the confused, yet humored look on my face.

"Heh, nothing gets past you does it?" I asked, receiving a simple smug grin and a head shake before I continued, "Well, I'm honestly not sure how Rookwood knew it was me to look for, I never met the man in person. I didn't even know about magic until I turned 12 like...3 years ago, and I'd never met anyone that looked similar to that man. I did, however, get a sinking suspicion that someone watched the two of us get into the carriage with Fig and his friend the night we came to Hogwarts, but even still, he didn't see my face if that was him. He didn't show up at the vault with Ranrok, so I can only assume that maybe some of his descendants worked in something similar and that's how he came to know about Ranrok and his plans. As for the magic, it's like I know when to use it, but the 'spell' it actually casts? It ranges from changing someone into a chicken, to shrinking giant spiders so I can squash them, to even being able to summon lightning from the sky. Ominis describes it as an inferno too; when we walked back from the forest the other day, he told me that it felt like an inferno as well, it's one of the ways he's able to tell it's me instead of another witch," I explained, taking my time as I delved through each thought to make sure I was still being honest, but didn't need to tell every detail.

It seemed to satisfy him, but he had a look of awe spread across his face, undoubtedly wondering what it felt like for me to have something that powerful flowing through my veins. "Well, I don't know what I was expecting you to say, but it definitely wasn't that. What does that even mean though, as far as your magic goes?" he asked, tilting his head to the side, eyebrows arched. "Careful Seb, you keep arching your eyebrows like that, they'll get stuck. As far as the magic goes, all I know is that I can see whispers of an old magic that hardly anyone else can. However, and this is where it gets tricky and why I'm in such a hurry to get a step ahead of him: Ranrok has learned how to harness this magic's power," I replied with urgency, trying to convey the severity of the situation. "Are you telling me that goblins may be wielding some sort of wizard magic? And not only just any magic, but one of the oldest forms of magic, one that no has seen for years?" Sebastian sneered, especially when he said the word 'goblins'. I made a mental note to try and figure out why he seemed to have such an affinity for goblins at some point in the near future. "That's what Professor Fig and I are trying to find out-" "And this 'ability' of yours...you said you were learning how to control it? How to wield it even?" Sebastian asked, interrupted in all actuality, but they were valid concerns and questions.

"I - I don't know. I hope so, but as of now, I'm not sure" I answered, gazing directly into his eyes so that he could hopefully hear and see the genuine tone I wanted to convey. I wanted to be able to wield it, not only for me, but also as a way to protect those I care about. "Well, when you do know, please tell me. I've been studying archaic forms of magic for ages, all in a desperate search to find a cure for my sister. Perhaps we can help each other. In the meantime, with both Rookwood and Ranrok after you, not to mention the ring-leader of the poacher rings himself, Theophilus Harlow, I would suggest a bit more time of practicing with the blasting curse in order to prepare you. Please, spend as much time here as you'd like; this space now belongs to you as well. When I head to Feldcroft, I'll send you an owl," Sebastian said, saying goodbye as I walked back towards the exit of the hidden chamber. When I exited the hidden hallway, I stepped out of the clock door and immediately tensed, knowing that there was someone there.
