Zander led the way, but he made sure to keep looking behind him to ensure that I was, indeed, following him up the hillside trail. We walked in silence, giving me plenty of time to think over the past 12 or so hours. I knew that I had been reckless, but what did they expect? That I was going to let a woman die just because she refused to turn me over, and that aside, for the simple fact that she didn't even know the person the Ashwinders ordered for her to turn over? What about the Ashwinders? Had I left, they would've killed her, maybe even me alongside her even though they claimed Rookwood just wanted a simple word with me. Anything with that man, as I've come to learn, was far from simple.
And besides a new friendship with a historical researcher, I was able to uncover some trials of Merlin, ways I can enhance my magical abilities and perfect the spells I've come to learn and will surely, still learn in the coming days. Then with Arn and Jalal, them telling me about the goblin camp we'd just come from, how they'd started terrorizing hamlets. It made me wonder if they were going to any other hamlets in the area; plus, with Jalal's story, it showed that not only was Ranrok growing in power, in dark magic, but the goblins were ransacking and killing for fun. That was reasoning alone to intervene, and with my brother and his two Slytherin friends always feeling the need to protect me, no one would be able to stop them.
And that's not to say they weren't/aren't powerful enough to help, but rather it makes yet another issue for me: people that I love being in harms way, people that I want to defend but get distracted by so easily if there's even a trace of danger headed towards them. I witnessed that with Sebastian and the troll in Hogsmeade, when he was almost pummeled to death. With Ominis and hearing how just a comment, a small misunderstanding about his character made his hard exterior fall apart? It made me wonder how such a strong man could become so broken and defensive, not just wanting but needing to prove those comments wrong, to do everything he can in order to escape his family's legacy.
And then my brother...the man who had proven time and time again that he is the first true love of my life, seeing as my dad had become such a tremendous disappointment and wanted to kill me. He is literally my whole life, the one who would pave the way for me, who would show me the best example of a man's love though nothing would be romantic with him, and I would internally cringe at the possibility. More so that he would be the example of a good man, of who I would be with one day and who I'd want one day, and he would always be the protective brother. He has proven time and time again that he wouldn't let me near danger if he can prevent it even just a little. Hence the reason he showed up, with the other two Slytherin boys, to save me from a poacher and to help me fight a bunch of goblins because I had committed to freeing carts for a new friend.
As we came up to the shed I passed on my way here, I cast 'Revelio' and heard a jingle from the inside, piquing my interest as to what resides in there. "Wait, there's something in here. No big spiders, though little ones aren't completely impossible," I smirked at Zander, causing him to roll his eyes before he followed me inside the shed. Once we got inside, there were a couple chests, even an old set of worker's tools on top of a desk. I cast 'Revelio' again and it showed a page that said: "Groundskeeper's Tools".
"This hut is where the groundskeeper lives and it also holds all of the tools possible to maintain the school. The physical tools are for show really, just in case a Muggle found their way in somehow; after all, magic has a variety of uses."
"So, can we leave now? There's just dust and cobwebs in here, nothing else to really concern ourselves with," Zander said nonchalantly, gesturing around the room to further his point. "Alright fine, we can leave, but I don't want to go back to the castle," I said, straightening myself up to face him confidently, showing him that I wasn't going anywhere that I didn't want to go. "Alright, alright, no need to get all testy. We can go somewhere else. But, I don't know what it is you want to talk about," Zander said, gesturing towards the door as he began to walk outside of the shed, me following close behind. "Let's go to the Three Broomsticks, I haven't been there to actually enjoy a butterbeer and I'd like to do so."
