Professor Fig led us through the forest seamlessly and without issue or delay. It was cold and still somewhat muggy, but I kept my eyes focused on my brother leading the way towards our first step into Hogwarts. The castle was a sight to behold at night. "Well, I know for a fact that I am going to get lost in this place," my brother said as his mouth dropped open in awe at the towering building. "Yea, you can say that again bro. I can't wait to see what it looks like in the daytime!" I exclaimed in a small voice, closing my open mouth that had dropped in awe. "Before we go in, lets just talk about what just happened. In time we will tell the headmaster about what happened, but for now I just ask that it stays between the three of us. Obviously, they will know about the dragon attack, there's no avoiding that, but Gringotts, Ranrok's odd display of wielding magic...all of that has to stay between the three of us, for now at least. Can I trust you guys to keep quiet, just for now?" Fig asked in desperation in front of the doors to the Great Hall.
As we both nodded, the headmaster came out of the door and chastised Fig for bringing us in late, but ushered the two of us into the hall soon after. There were long rows of tables, plates that were empty littering each one of the tables, students behind every single one. It was intimidating but it was all so ornate and put together as well. We followed Headmaster Black up to a podium with wings carved out of the top; however, my gaze traveled over the startled, awestruck faces of the students gawking at us. A woman in a bun came over to the two of us with a stool in one hand, and an old tattered hat grasped in the other one. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: Zander and Ren Potter, the last two sortings of the year. We will then launch the new year with a feast and celebration." Black spoke with authority, effectively silencing the chatter of curious students. Zander sat on the stool first, getting the hat placed onto his head. "Hmmm, a new student starting as a fifth year...how intriguing. You come here with certain expectations and preferences..." the hat spoke out, trailing off in wait for Zanders answer. "I can't wait to explore!" he answered, a smile decorating his face.
Yes, Hogwarts is surrounded with beauty...but your professors will have much to teach you, so be sure to listen," it spoke in reply before launching into another question. "Much can be gleaned from having an adventurous spirit. I detect something in you, a certain aspect of...what is it?" "A certain sense of ambition and a mind that is brimming with motivation, maybe?" Zander replied, finishing the hats sentence. "Better be...Slytherin!" As soon as the hat spoke, the woman took the hat and waved her wand, ushering a green robe sporting a snake insignia on the back of it. Zander moved to stand away, but made sure not to go too far. Black gestured for me to go next, so in spite of my bundle of nerves, I walked over to the stool and sat. "Oooh, you're an intriguing one. You have an aptitude for a magic I haven't seen in quite awhile. I think this rare bit of magic promises that we will see great things from you. And what are your preconceptions and/or expectations?" the hat spoke as soon as it was placed on my head, drawing a nervous blush to my cheeks."Honestly, the same as my brother. I am looking forward to my classes, but even more so...to exploring all that magic has to offer," I answered the hat, causing it to continue. "Yes, a kindred spirit in adventure makes sense because he is your brother after all. Again though, don't forget about your fellow classmates and the professors around you who want to help out and teach you. Alongside your rare magic ability, you also seem to exude a certain sense of daring bravery that may cause you to forge on ahead solo, most of the time at least. Your friendships and relationships will be necessary, so don't neglect them; especially when you're advancing in your magical abilities!" the hat cautioned. "Better be...Gryffindor!" the hat declared as my robes were transformed into a red and golden color with a lion symbol decorating the back. "Yes, all is well and done. But before we head off to our rooms, I have a couple more things to announce. Quidditch this year has been cancelled due to the unfortunate accident last fall. I know this is a lot to take in, but it's not like I've banned flying altogether; but, if you keep pushing me, I may reconsider. I'm sure you all have a lot of preparations to make for the start of classes tomorrow. You're dismissed!" Black announced, before asking the woman, Professor Weasley, to take the two of us to our common rooms.
We went far down into the castle, close to the dungeons she had told us. When we arrived at the Slytherin common room, I noticed a guy with light brown hair and a haunted expression dawning his face. The moment he saw me though, curiosity replaced those worried expressions, bringing a little smile to my own face. He smirked a little in response before walking out of the hallway. The brown haired boy had distracted me from seeing my brother enter his room but my attention was regained when Professor Weasley led us away from that hall. After a little while, and a lot of stairs, we made it to a door that held a portrait of a big woman on it. I was taken aback when the portrait said 'password', but I said what I needed to say (Grata Donum) and it opened. I practically fell into my bed and, inevitably, passed out onto said comfy bed.
