Sorry! I got busy near the end of the month.

Anyway, since last month was all about structure this month will be all about...not structure. YAY :D

So the poems are called Vers Beaucoup (yes another french one), Couplets, and Carpe Diem. These poems have nothing in common and very few rules so you will have lots of variety to chose from!

Couplets: (definition taken from wikipeadia then edited to suit me)

A couplet is a pair of lines of in poetry. Couplets usually comprise two lines that rhyme and have the same metre. A couplet may be formal (closed) or run-on (open).

In a formal (or closed) couplet, each of the two lines is end-stopped, implying that there is a grammatical pause at the end of a line of verse.

In a run-on (or open) couplet, the meaning of the first line continues to the second.

They can be only two lines or as long as an epic, it's all up to the poet.

Example: Shadow Poetry

Hidden within the shadows of night,

Poets by the dozens begin to write.

Pens, the paintbrush of imagination;

Blank paper, a canvas of creation.

Verses in rhythm, a rhyming scheme-

A poet's life, a written dream.

Seeking the light, souls revealed,

Sharing of poetry, once concealed.

Carpe Diem: This poem is a type of theme poetry that focuses on the phrase "Carpe Diem" which means Seize the Day in Latin. Shadow poetry doesn't have a catagory for this so you'll have to google it or just trust me when I explain it XD

Wikipeadia defines the phrase Carpe Diem as "enjoy the moment. In western education the tag is now often rendered as "take advantage of the opportunities arising in the day."

Basically it's an upbeat poem with them theme of seizing the moment. Just like other theme poems there is no set structure to this poetry so it can be literally anything.

Example:

when sun is shining

I love to reach out my arms

and grab its brilliance. . .

if I can do nothing more

at least I have seized the day

Vers Beaucoup: I find this type of poem really fun beause there's lots of rhyming and it's all internal so it gives it a bouncy feel. There's also no specified line length or meter counting.

Vers Beaucoup is French for "many rhymes".Each stanza consists of four lines with a rhyming word scheme of:

a-a-a-
a-b-b-
b-c-c-
c-d-d

Each rhyme can only use a MAXIMUM of three words. The fourth "a" rhyme carried over to the second line causes enjambment and creates a strong internal rhyming structure.

Example: The Last Goodbye (words capitalised for clarity)

Photos turn WHITE OVERNIGHT in my SIGHT.

I can't FIGHT with you ANYMORE in this WAR

with no SCORE. The MUSE will LOSE

when you CHOOSE to have PRIDE, then HIDE.

I can't BEAR to be THERE while you SHARE

your vacant STARE with my PAIN like an INSANE

WEATHERVANE. Wounds with SALT, never your FAULT

in your VAULT with your EXCUSE so OBTUSE.

Drink your WINE as the SIGN of the FINE

LINE that you CROSSED gets TOSSED,

EMBOSSED with your NAME is the SAME

tired GAME that you play EVERYDAY.

Traded me IN for a WIN so THIN,

it's a SIN to BELIEVE I will GRIEVE

as I LEAVE. I KNEW that what GREW

wasn't TRUE. Now I CRY the last GOODBYE.

Example 2: Imagination, Ho!

I find my mind to be confined

And blind like theirs with dull affairs

And cares that mar bizarre delights.

They scar the thoughts that once had taught

A lot to me. It hurts, you see,

To be so bland. I once was grand,

Unmanned like the lost ship at sea,

So free. I swear that I'll repair

And wear once more the glee and soar

Offshore unbound, my flag unwound,

And fool around, my hearts fine arts

The charts that lead ahead, fullspeed!
