I sat in my writing class and felt something was off. Where is Jake? I thought to myself as I glanced around the room. After the class ended, I got ready to leave and head home. But as soon as I went to open the door, I was stopped by Chris. He was smiling brightly at me.

His smile seems a little too forced, I noticed, it doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"Hi baby, you're coming to my house, okay?" Chris said.

Something feels off about this

"Uh, sure. Is something wrong?" I looked up at him, studying his expression.

"Nope, nothing's wrong. Come on," he replied, still smiling as he pulled me away and into his car. The drive to his house was silent, but what scared me the most was that his smile never dropped, not even for a moment.

"You know I love you, right?" he said suddenly.

Love?

"Uh, yeah," I responded cautiously.

"How do you feel about me?" he pressed.

How do I feel? I wondered. I like him, but I'm not sure I'm in love yet.

"Uh, I think of you as my boyfriend," I said.

"I didn't ask what you thought of me, I asked how you feel about me," he insisted.

This is getting uncomfortable.

"Uh, I-I like you a lot... you're nice and sweet to me..." I stammered.

"That's great, because I was talking to Damon and you know what great advice he gave me," Chris said, his smile widening.

Damon? What does he have to do with this?

"Uh, what?" I asked, confused.

"He said I should stop acting 'new', that I needed to show you what I'm really like," Chris explained, his hand suddenly landing on my thigh and starting to rub it.

What is happening?

I thought, my heart racing. Chris pulled into his driveway and got out, pulling me into the house. He sat me down in the living room and turned on the TV as the sun went down outside.

"I should go-" I started.

"No," Chris interrupted.

"What?" I asked, alarmed.

"I said you're not leaving," he stated firmly, dragging me up the stairs towards his bedroom.

I sat down onto his bed, trying to appear calm despite the growing sense of unease. I looked up at Chris's face, and the creepy smile he had been wearing earlier had been replaced by a cold, hard gaze.

"Uh, are you sure you're okay, Chris?" I asked again, my voice wavering slightly.

He just stared at me for a moment, his coal-black eyes devoid of any warmth or emotion. "Did you know you received a text from that boy, Jake?" he said finally, his tone flat and accusatory.

Crap,

"No, I didn't," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

Chris loomed over me, his presence suddenly feeling oppressive and threatening. In that moment, I saw something in his eyes that chilled me to the core - a complete lack of life, a deadness that made my heart race with fear.

I instinctively moved back on the bed, putting some distance between us.

"Uh, Chris, why are you just staring at me like that?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

He let out a long, heavy sigh, as if snapping out of some kind of trance. "It's nothing," he said, his expression softening slightly.

"But you are staying here for the night," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

I don't have a choice

"Fine, then," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.

"But you should take a shower and relax for today," Chris continued, his expression softening slightly. "I have your things in the bathroom."

Not even going to think about how he got that

"Whatever, you were acting hella creepy there for a moment, you know?" I said, glaring at him.

"I know, I don't really know why I do that sometimes," he admitted, a hint of remorse in his voice.

I continued to glare at him for a moment, then turned away and headed towards the bathroom

I gaped at the sheer size of the bathroom, my eyes widening in surprise.

This place is huge, I thought, taking in the luxurious fixtures and spacious layout.

I glanced over to the counter and saw that Chris had indeed laid out a set of night clothes for me.

Creepy, I couldn't help but think, but I decided to shrug it off for now.

I might as well take advantage of the situation and try to relax, I reasoned. With a resigned sigh, I stepped into the shower, letting the warm water wash away some of the tension and unease I had been feeling.

As I lathered up with the fancy shower products Chris had provided, I tried to clear my mind and focus on the present moment. Maybe this won't be so bad
