Chapter 19

"Ssshhhiiiiiiitttttttt..." Was the first thing out of Simon's mouth.

"I know. I--" Clary agreed. For once, everyone agreed that Simon had voiced their thoughts best.

"What do we do?"

"We had a rune expert lined up a few years ago we could probably still get her," Jace suggested.

"Okay"

"Let's do it"

"Sure"

"Good idea"

They looked into her when they got back to the institute later that day. Clary had wondered how one would "look into" the status of a specific shadowhunter, but Izzy just asked her parents about it.

Apparently Kaitlin Graybattle had died fighting a pack of demons the previous week.

"Someone's definitely trying to stop you developing," Alec finally said.

Something tickled the back of Clary's mind, like a long-forgotten sepia tinted childhood memory. She clutched her head and stepped back. Everyone looked at her.

"I-- I have to think. I might have the answer, but I need to think." Clary said. She ran up to her room.

Meanwhile, the others stayed and talked worriedly.

"How strong is she?" Have asked once she was out of earshot.

"I don't know," Simon said, again speaking for the whole group.

"She has a plan apparently, but what if it doesn't work? We don't know what we're up against, we don't know why this is happening. We don't know anything." Izzy hit the table in frustration. Just then, Clary walked in again.

"I have a plan, but there are high stakes."

Oh god what am I doing

I think there's only going to be one more chapter for 2 reasons.

1. I'm rereading this and cringing. I hate this book and am super embarrassed by it.

2. I didn't make a plan and I'm regretting it bitterly as I have no idea how to tie up all these loose ends...
