"We don't have to do this, Bloodhound," Kiyoomi said through gritted teeth as he wormholed to avoid being decapitated by a blade of solid blood.

"'Course we do, Void," Atsumu snapped back, a tendril of blood wrapping around Kiyoomi as he exited his wormhole and throwing him against the roof floor.

Kiyoomi winced as he collided with the rough concrete. They were fighting on the roof of the building that was the focus of the Jackals' latest attack. Kiyoomi pulled out his gun and fired three bullets, but Atsumu dodged under the first, sliced the second with a blade of blood, and blocked the last with a wall of solid blood.

Kiyoomi gritted his teeth and fired a wormhole at Atsumu's feet. The blonde squeaked as he fell into the void below. Kiyoomi huffed a breath and sighed in relief – a bit too soon, because a whip of blood curled around his ankle and dragged him through the gateway after Atsumu.

"That trick is getting a bit stale with how often you use it," Kiyoomi complained.

"Ya keep fallin' for it, though," Atsumu countered, a hand holding onto the whip of blood.

Kiyoomi's hand came down on the blood tendril, dosed in negative energy. The dark energy surged up the blood and onto Atsumu's hand. The shout of agony that left the blonde as he recoiled, cradling his hand to his chest, made Kiyoomi feel a bit guilty.

They fell through the void of Kiyoomi's pocket dimension, the distorted gravity dragging them in odd directions. A blood sword formed from Atsumu's uninjured hand and he slashed it across his back. With a powerful snap of his bloody wings, Atsumu soared, gaining movement control in the endless void.

He spiraled high above Kiyoomi – or whatever counted as above in the pocket dimension – and stretched his unscathed left palm out towards Kiyoomi. The blood blade dispersed to cover Atsumu's arm, growing bigger and bulkier until it seemed like Atsumu had a cannon made from blood protruding from his shoulder.

Kiyoomi swore loudly and instantly opened an exit to the dimension. He wasn't fast enough though. A cannonball of blood rocketed into his chest. Kiyoomi sputtered as he fell through the exit gateway. Atsumu shot through the gate right after him. Then, with a blood-drenched left hand that seemed to grow claws, Atsumu grabbed Kiyoomi by his collar.

They flew high into the air between the buildings, hovering over the road where the Jackals were about to make their escape with some very important documents from the Adlers. With the distraction Atsumu offered them, the Jackals' members made a break for it while the Adlers stared up at the pair in shock.

Kiyoomi held onto Atsumu's bloodied wrist and stared into the souless eyes of the kitsune mask.

"You know I won't die if you drop me, right?" Kiyoomi grit out.

"Nah, it's not like ya can jus' wormhole to the ground," Kiyoomi could practically smell the eye-roll amongst the tangy irony scent of blood, "We've done this dance one too many times, Void."

Kiyoomi snorted, "You think?"

There was a movement in the corner of Kiyoomi's eye, but with a wave of Atsumu's burned right hand, Tobio's rescue attempt went awry. The ice bridge exploded into tiny shards as a wave of blood crashed into it. Kiyoomi caught the sharp hiss of pain that Atsumu let out at the use of his injured hand, and he couldn't help be feel both pleased and a bit guilty.

"I guess my negative energy really does affect you," Kiyoomi muttered.

"It's nothin' new to me," Atsumu countered almost instantly.

"Fine," Kiyoomi huffed, "I doubt you'll mind if I do this, then."

Suddenly, negative energy erupted where Kiyoomi was holding onto Atsumu's arm. The dark matter spread quickly up Atsumu's arm and onto his back where his wings were until. The blonde immediately let go of Kiyoomi's collar, dark energy searing his blood and skin. Kiyoomi wormholed instantly, landing on the ground below. He watched Atsumu curl over in the air, cradling his second injured arm. Kiyoomi's eyes caught on the glistening of liquid against the pale skin of the exposed lower half of his face.

His eyes widened. It wasn't blood – it was tears. Atsumu screamed in agony, and his bloody wing-beats began to slow and lose their rhythm.

"You did it," Wakatoshi stated blankly – Kiyoomi couldn't help but think that there was a hint of contempt in his voice – as he stepped up next to Kiyoomi, "Bloodhound won't stay airborne for much longer. He'll either be killed or taken back to base to be converted to our side when he finally falls."

Kiyoomi's eyes slowly drifted to Wakatoshi before going back to Atsumu. He did it... He'd clipped Bloodhound's metaphorical, and somewhat literal, wings, but the question was why he felt horrified at the realisation.

Kiyoomi watched as Atsumu fought to keep off the ground, but his negative energy had done exactly what he'd expected. It did exactly what Kiyoomi had thought he'd wanted, but now... Watching Atsumu in pain after knowing his story, why he did what he did – knowing that the blonde had showed him mercy in every single fight – Kiyoomi felt sick with the thought.

The singing of steel in the wind cut through Kiyoomi's mental crisis. Raptor appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and swept Atsumu out of the sky. He took off, darting around a corner, staying low so that the Adlers couldn't see in which direction he went.

The relief that washed over Kiyoomi was uncanny. The Adlers stood there in silence for a moment or two before Kiyoomi motioned to wipe the blood from his face. Ignoring the pain he felt in his chest, both physically and emotionally, he let out something dangerously similar to a growl of frustration.

The almost-growl caught Kiyoomi off-guard, and with a sharp intake of breath, his eyes reverted back to normal. He hadn't even realized he'd switched. He patted his holster for his gun – missing. He scanned the ground and spotted it, destroyed in a pool of blood.

With gritting teeth and a clenched jaw, Kiyoomi opened a wormhole and entered it, leaving the other Adlers members behind in the street.
