All Sakusa Kiyoomi wanted, was a normal, peaceful life, but he knew that the Adlers would never let him off the hook. He knew why. The reason was simple enough: he was powerful. In a city nearly laid to ruins by an event that occurred long before Kiyoomi's time, Kiyoomi's life was a far cry from peaceful.
The city of Osaka was a lively bustling place just twenty-eight years ago. Unfortunately, Kiyoomi was twenty-five.
A disease of sorts spread across the world and had caused people to run rampant, having mutated their DNA to include extreme powers. They called them meta-humans, metas for short, and they still did even in Kiyoomi's time.
Nowadays, however, most metas were either working for the government, also known as the Adlers, or they were on the run or hiding their powers. Otherwise, there was a very slim chance that they joined up with the Black Jackals.
The Black Jackals were a rebel organisation that plotted against the Adlers. The Jackals also, unfortunately, had some of the most dangerous metas working for them. The only reason Kiyoomi knew this information, was because he was working for the Adlers, and it wasn't some desk job where he sat in an office whole day - no, he wasn't lucky enough for that.
Kiyoomi's job, along with a few others, was to combat the Jackals whenever they attacked. He'd been in the game for nearly three years. There would always be a massive battle whenever the Jackals attacked, and as of the current moment, Kiyoomi was in the midst of one of those fights.
The sky was painted a dark red, as it had been for all of Kiyoomi's life. The streets and buildings were as damaged as always and the thick smog hung over head as per usual.
Kiyoomi sat with his broad shoulders against a van, his gun gripped tightly in his gloved grasp. He sighed beneath his black facial mask, which stood out against his pale skin and highlighted his obsidian green eyes.
He pushed his messy jet-black curls from his eyes, allowing the perfectly aligned moles just above his right eyebrow into view. A high-pitched ringing in his ears caused him to swear harshly under his breath, and he dove out of the way as the van was cleaved in two.
Kiyoomi thanked every god, if they even existed, that there was only one Jackal, today. To Kiyoomi's delight, the Jackal was also one possessing one of the more tame powers. Though, 'tame' was completely inaccurate in Kiyoomi's opinion.
The Adlers had nicknamed him Velocity. He was a small, slim man with fiery ginger hair and pale skin, but not much else could be said about his looks since he wore a mask that covered his full face and a full black body suit.
The annoying thing was, the kid could practically run at the speed of light. On top of that, when he ran, he generated fields of energy around him that could blast through just about anything. The only way Kiyoomi could ever tell if he was near was listening to the sound barrier shattering every time he ran.
The two halves of the van came crashing down on either side of Velocity as he prowled towards Kiyoomi.
"Tobio, I have Velocity on my ass. I could really use some fucking help, you know," Kiyoomi near-growled into his communicator.
"Are you not able to handle it by yourself, Sakusa-san?" Came Kageyama Tobio's bored voice from over the line.
"If being blasted into smithereens counts as 'handling it' then sure," Kiyoomi countered as he quickly aimed his gun at his feet and pulled the trigger.
Kiyoomi slipped into his wormhole right as Velocity's energy field shredded through where he was standing. A portal opened and he landed on top of one of the halves of the van.
"Tobio!" He hissed.
A groan, "Fine."
"I'm sending a gateway to you," Kiyoomi informed.
"No, thanks," Tobio replied, "I'll take my own route. That shit makes me queasy."
Kiyoomi scoffed but bit his tongue as to not say anything that could bring him trouble in the future. He just had to hold off Velocity until Tobio got there.
Velocity turned on him again but this time Kiyoomi stood his ground. Kiyoomi twisted his gun in his hand and fired at the floor right as Velocity was about to reach him.
Velocity fell into the gateway and Kiyoomi instantly fired another gateway mid-air, facing the building to his right.Velocity's bright orange energy field was visible as he ran out of the wormhole and slammed into the wall of the building. Cracks spread up the wall from the impact zone. Kiyoomi opened another wormhole that caught Velocity before he hit the ground. He pulled his second handgun from its holster and fired an exit gateway for Velocity high in the sky and then an entrance and exit for himself, right next to Velocity.
The moment Kiyoomi exited his wormhole, he twisted and slammed his foot into Velocity's back. Velocity hit the ground with a loud crack, and Kiyoomi wormholed back down to the ground.
The crackle of ice being formed was heard overhead - the telltale sign of Tobio's arrival.
Tobio slid over on a bridge of ice that stretched through the sky just above the buildings. Piercing sapphire blue eyes met obsidian green and he nodded.
"About damn time," Kiyoomi muttered.
Tobio's straight jet-black hair whipped around his face as he directed the ice bridge to twist through the air. A stream of frost blasted from his pale hands and formed a ramp of ice. Tobio used it to leap down to the ground where he landed with a tumble roll next to Kiyoomi.
Velocity was already pushing up onto his feet. Kiyoomi cursed his speed healing and raised both of his guns. He fired, and the bullets zipped past Velocity on either side of his face. They collided with one another and Kiyoomi feintly heard Velocity curse.
A black hole had opened behind Velocity and was already starting to draw him in. Velocity took off trying to sprint away from the black hole but it was too strong, he couldn't gain any traction.
Tobio slammed his foot down and frost scurried across the ground from his shoe to Velocity's. The frost spread until Velocity's legs and arms were trapped in ice.
With a snap of Kiyoomi's fingers, the black hole closed and blinked out of existence, leaving an immobilized, panting Velocity. Kiyoomi exhaled calmly and stepped towards Velocity, aiming to remove his mask.
Suddenly, a crimson bullet shot past Kiyoomi, right between him and Velocity. His eyes widened as he turned to see the bullet splatter across the ground in a pool of dark, steaming blood.
It was a warning shot.
"It's Bloodhound! Get down!"
