Kiyoomi wondered around the Jackals' base, unsure of where he was headed but fully aware of what he was looking for. He was looking for a training room. It had been a long first few days with the Black Jackals and he needed to blow off some steam.

He figured out a lot during the very short week he was with the Jackals. The first thing he figured out was that Tobio had been working with them the entire time, well, not working for them as much as he was gathering information so that they could help him. The Adlers had held his sister, Kageyama Miwa, under threat for the full five years Tobio had worked for them. Tobio himself was dating Hinata Shoyo, also known as Velocity.

Kiyoomi marveled at Tobio and Shoyo's acting abilities. It was a bit impressive. The second thing he found out was that Wakatoshi was in a similar situation, except his non-meta boyfriend, Tendou Satori, had been under threat. He and Tobio had worked together since they were both forced to work for the Adlers at the same time.

They'd been biding their time, playing their part, until the Jackals managed to break the chains that tethered them to the Adlers so that they could escape and join the resistance.

It turned out that many people resided under the protection of the Jackals. Atsumu's brother, Miya Osamu, and his boyfriend, Suna Rintarou, as well as their best friend, Akagi Michinari – who Motoya had taken quite a liking to, Kiyoomi noticed – were all protected by the Jackals.

That wasn't all though. Shoyo's sister, Hinata Natsu lived at the base, and Ragnar – who Kiyoomi came to know as Meian Shugo – had his wife and kids living there as well. The Jackals were less militias than Kiyoomi expected. The Black Jackals were like a family, unlike the cold corporation of the Adlers.

What completely shocked Kiyoomi though, was the fact that Wakatoshi and Atsumu's battle – where Wakatoshi had poisoned Atsumu with his arsenic – was staged.

Apparently, when Atsumu's identity was discovered and Wakatoshi was sent to assassinate his family, Wakatoshi had informed the blonde ahead of time. The battle where Bloodhound found Venom trying to murder his family was completely an act, and the actual poisoning had been a complete accident. Wakatoshi's blood had splashed into a cut on Atsumu's face and the poison took hold.

With Wakatoshi's help, Atsumu's family got him to the Jackals' base where he was placed under the care of Ragnar and his cell regeneration powers. Ragnar and Wakatoshi agreed to play it off as Bloodhound's death until he'd recovered enough to go back out into the field again.

Kiyoomi felt upset, guilty, betrayed and angry that he was kept in the dark about all of this, but he understood the need for secrecy. It was literally life or death for those who worked under Fukuro. It was safe to say that Kiyoomi's head was a mess. There was too much going on up there and he needed to hit something.

Kiyoomi wondered down a corridor, drawn in by the sounds of steel on steel. He turned the corner to find Wakatoshi sparring with Raptor, or, as Kiyoomi came to know, Bokuto Koutarou. The training room was a massive studio room with big arched windows, offering Koutarou enough room to use his wings comfortably.

The two men were both shirtless. Wakatoshi's metallic skin had a dull silver sheen with a few discolored spots – from Kiyoomi's negative energy – and scratches all over it, courtesy of Koutarou, who had bruises and scars across his broad torso. Kiyoomi dragged his eyes away from them and over to a window. Sitting on the windowsill, was Atsumu watching them spar.

He was wearing a black hoodie that was clearly too big for him since it hung off his left shoulder, and a pair of black shorts that did nothing to hide the burn scars on his legs. He swung his feet back and forth, no shoes just socks.

The image struck Kiyoomi as endearing. It was adorable in a way. It would have even cuter, though, if Atsumu wasn't covered in scars and if he didn't have bandages peaking out from his exposed shoulder.

"You're not sparring with them?" Kiyoomi asked as he took a seat next to Atsumu on the windowsill.

Those gorgeous eyes were on Kiyoomi now, "Nah," he said simply, "It gets a bit messy when I fight, even durin' sparrin'."

Kiyoomi snorted, "I can imagine," but then it struck him, "How do you train then?"

Atsumu turned back to watch Wakatoshi and Koutarou and shrugged, "I use normal weapons from the weapons rack," he answered, motioning with his head to the wall where a multitude of weapons hung on hooks, "An' some martial arts."

Kiyoomi nodded, "Which weapons do you use?"

Atsumu blinked and turned to study the wall. There was an array of swords, whips, axes, guns, quarterstaffs, daggers, crossbows and more.

"Eh... Jus' 'bout all of 'em," Atsumu admitted, "When ya can manipulate yer blood into anythin', it comes in handy to be well-versed in a lot of things."

Kiyoomi hummed, "Makes sense," he agreed, "I only ever trained in hand-to-hand combat and firearms, because of my guns, but they're destroyed now."

Atsumu twisted in his seat, swinging his legs up onto the windowsill and pushing his back against the wall. Kiyoomi felt like those beautiful eyes were staring right into his soul.

"They were power dampeners, yeah?" Atsumu asked and Kiyoomi nodded, "Well, then it's good that they're gone 'cause yer way stronger without 'em."

Kiyoomi furrowed his brows, "Inversion has its repercussions," he replied, turning to face Atsumu.

Atsumu hummed, "Yeah, I know," he answered, "I have, in fact, almost died many times, an' all of those close calls were when yer eye-colours went all wonky."

Kiyoomi rolled his eyes, "Yeah, well, it affects me too," he muttered.

Atsumu snorted, an unexpected reaction from the blonde, "Oh, I know that too. Everyone already filled me in on what happened while I was unconscious."

Kiyoomi broke eye-contact, looking towards the sparring duo. His face burned and he wasn't sure why. When he looked back at Atsumu, he was surprised to see that there was a gentle yet amused smile on his face. It was stunning.
