It was late, almost past midnight when they wormholed into the art gallery. Kiyoomi managed to get them right around the corner from the vault.
Atsumu watched Kiyoomi's flank as his eyes flared and inverted. He began to use his negative energy to blowtorch a hole small hole through the massive door. When the hole was wide enough, he peered into the vault. Unfortunately, he couldn't see anything, so he couldn't wormhole them into the vault just yet.
Kiyoomi reached down to his belt and grabbed a small flashlight. He covered the front with his hand and switched it on. He shined the beam into the vault through the hole in the thick titanium alloy door. With a small grin behind his face mask, Kiyoomi peered into the vault.
"We got company, Void," Atsumu whispered.
Kiyoomi then heard the footsteps of a security guard nearing the room that housed the vault. He breathed a sigh.
"Good thing we're good to go," Kiyoomi muttered.
He stepped back and took hold of Atsumu's arm. Before Atsumu knew it, they'd wormholed right into the vault. They froze as the security guard passed by the vault. The beam of light from his torch passing through the hole in the door and over their faces.
"His heart rate increased," Atsumu whispered almost imperceptibly, "Duck," if Kiyoomi hadn't been right next to Atsumu, he wouldn't have heard it.
They quietly hit the floor. Atsumu gently placed a hand on Kiyoomi's arm, and it was only then that Kiyoomi realized how quick his breathing had become. They could hear the footsteps of the security guard nearing the door. The beam of his torchlight shined through the hole, but just as he got close enough to look through it, his walkie-talkie went off.
"Hey, man, I see you approaching the vault door," came the static-like voice from the walkie-talkie, "Something wrong?"
Kiyoomi sucked in a sharp breath and Atsumu grabbing his hand, squeezing it. They'd forgotten about the cameras.
The heard the security guard grab his walkie-talkie, his beam of light stationary in the darkness of the vault, "Did you maybe see anyone come past here?"
The security guard on the other end hummed, "No. I just got back to the surveillance room from my own patrol and saw you looking at the vault."
Kiyoomi felt Atsumu breathe a sigh of relief.
"Well, there's a hole in the vault door," the first guard replied, "It looks like it was...melted? I don't know, man, this is strange."
"None of the alarms were triggered," the second guard on the walkie-talkie stated.
"I think we might be dealing with a meta," the first guard said, "I don't see anything or anyone but I think it would be best if we get the Adlers out. The meta could still be in here."
"Shit," Kiyoomi hissed and Atsumu's grip on his hand tightened.
"I've sent out the alert," the second guard informed, "Hurricane and Resonance are on their way to investigate."
"Double shit," Kiyoomi hissed.
"I'm going to continue my rounds," the first guard stated, "Keep an eye on the vault and the surrounding cameras until the Adlers get here."
"Got it," the second replied.
They heard the footsteps of the first guard move away from the vault. About thirty seconds later, Atsumu rose to his feet.
"He's gone," he said, "C'mon, we gotta be quick."
There was the quiet slice of steel and then the hole was covered by a thin sheet of solid blood to keep any light from escaping. Kiyoomi flicked on his torch again and they immediately went searching through the filing cabinets that lined the walls.
