Chapter 50

~ Niall ~
"Yes, Louis. We landed safely." Nina spoke on the phone.
I grabbed onto her hand as security led us to our home.
We had to come home during shows for just a day for the next ultrasound.
We leave early tomorrow morning, but I have a concert tomorrow as well.
It's gonna be a long two days.
"I'll call you later. Love you, too."
She hung up the phone and placed it on the kitchen counter, sighing softly.
"How are you feeling, princess?"
Her nose crinkled as she scrunched her face in discomfort.
"My back hurts, but I'm okay. Nothing major; not yet, anyways."
"Let me know, though. Don't hesitate." I said.
She smiled and nodded, checking her phone for the time.
"We should probably head out. By the time we get out of here and there, we'll probably just make the appointment." She said.
I pouted and she grabbed the keys, dropping them in my had.
"I know we just got back, but it's worth it. Just to check and see if the little one's okay."
She's right, like always.
Our little creation is okay, though.
Nina has been taking good care of him or her, and I've been taking good care of Nina.
She and I walked out the door and security led us to our car, and I got in the driver's seat.
"So how many more months until the gender?" I asked, starting to drive.
"One to two. Soon, Niall."
I suppose now is a good time to talk a little about that topic.
"So, do you want to find out the gender? Or do you want it to be a surprise?" I asked.
She shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't know. Like, I want it to be a surprise because I think that would just make it more exciting; but then I think I want to find out now because it would be hard to prep for the baby. Like, I don't necessarily like the idea of a neutral room theme, and it would be hard for shopping for clothes and such." She said. "How about you? How do you feel about this?"
She makes a really valid point.
I don't really like having a neutral room either; I really think it should be either blue or pink themed.
And I would love to be able to pick out special things for my little boy or girl.
"I agree with you. I just think we should do it in a special way, find out, I mean."
Maybe like releasing balloons the color that corresponds to the gender.
Or perhaps going classic, making a cake with either blue or pink in the middle.
"What do you have in mind?"
I explained my ideas to her and added a few others, possibly trying to spark the right idea.
"Yeah, that's pretty cool. We've got a little time, though, we can think."
We pulled up to the hospital, and walked in.
"I'm gonna go check in. You can grab a seat or something." She said.
I nodded and we walked our separate ways.
Only moments later, after Nina had checked in, we were brought back into a room to get settled.
I know that this is only a little checkup, but I can't help but to worry.
The baby seems okay, but then again, things happen.
I could tell Nina was worried too, the way she fiddled with her fingers.
"It's okay, baby. Stay calm. The baby's okay." I tried to soothe her worry.
"I know, I just get worried, you know?"
I grabbed onto her hands, holding them up to my shoulders to stop the shaking.
"Just a little checkup, is all. We get to see our little one again." I smiled.
I kissed her lips softly, until the door was knocked on, and Melinda emerged.
"Hi, guys. How are you?" She asked, washing her hands in the sink.
"Eh, getting to the slightly more painful part." Nina shrugged her shoulders.
"We'll talk about that today. And, Niall, you're doing okay?"
"Yes, I'm good. Thank you."
I really like her.
She's super nice, and I'm glad Nina received her as the main nurse.
Now I know my babies will be in safe hands when the special day comes.
While lost in my thoughts, I hadn't realized that Nina was laying down, and the gel was already spread on her stomach.
I grabbed onto her hand as we watched the monitor, our hearts racing as we waited to see our little creation.
"And...here we are."
I couldn't help but grin when I saw the little body on the screen.
"Have you been drinking a lot of water?" Melinda asked.
"A fair amount." Nina said.
Melinda was quiet for a moment as she looked at the screen.
"The baby is looking a little smaller than normal, and that could be because they're not getting enough fluids in their body."
I felt Nina's hand go weak and I gripped onto it harder.
"T-the baby's still healthy, r-right?" Nina's voice shook.
I looked at he and saw her almost in tears as she tried to take this all in.
"Of course. Just be sure to keep drinking a lot of fluids. It's very important that you do so."
It seemed like Nina was okay again, and her hand became strong again.
The screen stayed still for a moment, taking pictures like the last time.
"I'm sorry if I worried you. There's truly nothing to worry about. However, let's talk about dealing with the pain that comes at this time. What kind of pain are you experiencing?" Melinda asked, wiping the gel off before sitting across from us.
Nina pulled her shirt down and sat up.
"Um, well, the morning sickness has ended, and I've been feeling back pains. I've had a few mood swings." She explained.
"Yeah, a few." I muttered, hoping she couldn't hear me.
I mean it in the nicest way possible because I love her, but damn, she's hormonal.
"Perfectly normal. Your back will begin to hurt a little more as the baby continues to grow, being as you're adding weight on one side of your body."
I'm so glad everything is going normally.
"And I have a question." Nina said. "With both of our jobs, we travel a lot. When should I stop flying?"
Oh, boy.
That's gonna be a big conflict if it's soon.
"Not for a little while." Melinda said, relieving me of my worries. "I'd say around your eighth month you should stop flying."
Nina nodded and sighed deeply as Melinda stood up.
"I'll go grab the pictures." She announced.
"We are going straight to the store and getting all the water bottles they have." Nina said, her eyes wide.
"Baby girl." I chuckled. "It's fine. We just have to get you drinking more water than usual."
"No, but, Ni. She said she was worried because of the size. What if I'm doing something wrong? I don't want to lose another baby." She began to panic.
"Hey, hey." I wrapped my arms around her, holding the base of her neck close to my chest. "The baby's okay, darlin'. You're doing so well. I'm here, and the boys are here to take care of you. The baby is okay."
I felt her nod her head and pull away, her eyes shining.
"You're right. How are you so calm about this?"
I shrugged not knowing the answer.
But honestly, I'm freaking out on the inside, I just don't want her to know that.
It would only add more stress onto her that she doesn't need.
Melinda walked back in the room with the pictures in her hand, and smiled.
"About a month or two, and then I can tell you the gender."
Just hearing her say it makes me even happier.
"Amazing. Thank you."

* 2 Days Later, Now Back With Boys *

~ Niall ~
I woke up suddenly when I heard a scream, or more like a squeal.
"Niall!"
I sat up in the bed quickly, seeing Nina at the floor length mirror, her stomach exposed.
For a moment, I was confused about her excitement, until I saw her hand go over the little bump on her stomach.
I'm sure my eyes bulged out of my head as I jumped and ran over to her.
"You're joking!" I exclaimed, not believing my eyes.
"It's our little creation!"
I pressed my hands onto her slightly swollen tummy, too, before getting on my knees in front of her.
"So beautiful." I whispered, kissing her soft skin.
It felt foreign to kiss the bump, being as it's brand new.
But it's my little baby.
The little baby that Nina and I made together.
"It's so cute, isn't it?" She gushed, running her fingers through my hair.
I couldn't help but run my finger over the top of the bump, knowing that my little baby's there.
"It's perfect." I said.
"We gotta tell the boys." She said.
She pulled her shirt down again, and rushed out the bedroom door.
She stopped abruptly when she realized all the boys were sitting in our main area in the hotel room.
What up with them always coming in our room?
"Glad you finally woke up." I heard Louis say as I threw some sweats on.
"Look, look, look!"
I walked out of the room, just in time to see Nina pull up her shirt to her chest, showing off the little bump.
The boys sat still for a moment, needing a minute to register it.
However, they all shouted out as soon as they realized it, and crowded around her.
"There really is a little baby in there!" Harry said, probably not even noticing what he said.
"Of course there is, mate." I laughed, hitting the side of his head.
"That's amazing." Liam said.
"We have to get a picture."
Louis' right, and I'm glad he said it because I would've forgotten.
I got down on my knees in front of Nina again, causing her to laugh and stroke my hair.
"No, this is weird." She giggled.
But Louis snapped the picture on my phone at the perfect time, capturing the special moment.
"Looks like you got a new lockscreen." Louis told me, causing me to laugh and stand back up.
"I love you." I whispered, kissing Nina softly.
I couldn't help but smirk against her lips when the boys started to complain and run away from us.
