The thought of tomorrow's health checkup was looming over Y/N like a dark cloud. She paced around her small hostel room, trying to think of a way to escape it. Being a hosteller meant there was no easy way out—taking leave was out of the question since the warden was always on high alert and would undoubtedly drag her to school if she tried.
After a while of thinking, she decided to call her best friend to share her anxiety. He picked up after a few rings, his voice bright and enthusiastic as always.
"Hey, Y/N! What's up?"
"Jungkook, I don't want to come to school tomorrow," Y/N replied, her voice trembling slightly.
Jungkook was confused. "Why? What happened?"
Y/N hesitated. She didn't want to admit she was scared of doctors, medical procedures, and most importantly, needles. It would ruin her brave girl image, and she thought Jungkook would tease her. "It's just... I'm not feeling well. I thought I might skip school tomorrow since there aren't many lectures anyway."
"What happened? Should I ask Jin hyung to check on you?" Jungkook asked with concern.
This made Y/N panic even more. "No, no, no! I'm not that sick. It's just a light headache. It'll go away soon. Okay, bye." She hurriedly cut the call. but her phone rang again almost immediately. Sighing, she hesitantly picked up.
"What happened? Why did you cut the call like that? And why don't you want to come to school tomorrow?" he asked, his curiosity piqued by Y/N's strange behavior.
"It's just... it's going to be boring tomorrow," Y/N said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Jungkook chuckled. "Y/N, you are unbelievable sometimes. We have to attend the health checkup. It's a strict order from Taehyung hyung that every student should be present. We can't skip it. Plus, we'll be free from school afterward, and we can go out and have some fun. What do you say?" He was clearly excited and oblivious to Y/N's situation.
"Yeah, good idea," Y/N replied hastily, not really interested but trying to mask her reluctance. She continued, "Jungkook..." She paused, and Jungkook hummed, waiting for her to continue. "Does tomorrow's health checkup include needles?"
Jungkook answered, puzzled. "Yeah, probably. They're collecting medical records and giving any necessary shots. I also heard Jin hyung mention a vaccine for students over thirteen. Why are you asking?"
There was a brief silence before Jungkook chuckled. "Don't tell me you're scared of injections," he said jokingly.
Y/N panicked. "No, no! Are you stupid? I'm not scared of anything," she insisted, trying to hide her fear.
"Yeah, yeah, except Taehyung hyung," Jungkook teased.
Ignoring his comment, Y/N wasn't in the mood to argue. "Think whatever you want. Now let me sleep." She abruptly ended the call, leaving Jungkook staring at his phone in confusion. It wasn't like Y/N to cut the call without having the last word or winning the argument. Shrugging, he assumed she must really be sleepy and decided to let it go.
The day of the health checkup had arrived, the gym, usually a hub of energetic activity and laughter, had transformed into a clinical, tension-filled space for the day of the health checkup. Bright overhead lights illuminated the area, starkly contrasting the gym's usual lively and colorful environment. Various stations were set up methodically, each dedicated to a different part of the medical examination process.
