The next morning, after dressing up, I made my way downstairs to have breakfast. Reaching the bottom step, I paused, surprised to hear the soft click of a door opening upstairs. A moment later, Taehyung appeared from his room, getting dressed up. He joined me, his presence a silent yet noticeable weight.
"Good morning," I greeted him, hoping to start the day on a positive note.
He simply hummed in response, his gaze lingering on me for a beat longer than necessary before he continued down the stairs.
We made our way to the dining table where Anna, had already prepared breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air.
We sat at the dining table, and Anna served us breakfast. The clinking of cutlery was the only sound breaking the silence until Taehyung spoke up.
"Come back a little early today," he said, not looking up from his plate. "We're going for dinner at my parents' place."
My eyes widened in surprise. "Tonight?"
"Yes," he replied, spearing a bite of pancake with his fork. "Mom called," he continued, his voice a low murmur. "She wants us to come over. They haven't met you since the wedding."
I nodded with a flicker of surprise. Dinner with his parents? Of course, his parents would want to meet me, understanding settling in.
I quickly checked my schedule on my phone and nodded. "Okay. I'll be on time."
The rest of the breakfast passed in a comfortable silence. We finished our food, and I offered to help Anna with the dishes. Taehyung, after a quick glance in my direction, excused himself to take some files from upstairs.
After a few minutes, I was ready with my sketchbook, keys, phone and wallet to go to work. I saw him waiting for me, he held the lift door open for me with a small smile, his eyes holding a hint of something l couldn't quite decipher. With a silent goodbye, we headed out to our respective cars, the quiet morning routine giving way to the busy day ahead.
___________________After finishing my work, I arrived home at 6 pm. The air hung heavy with the sweet scent of jasmine and a strange silence. Taehyung wasn't back yet so I headed upstairs. A quick shower, followed by the meticulous routine of my skincare, calmed my senses.
Just as I reached for my moisturizer, my phone buzzed. Soojin, my sister, was calling. We chatted for a few minutes, catching up on our days. Basically, she was checking on my life that if I was settling better or not. Her voice, full of laughter and warmth, pulled me out of the quiet solitude of my room. I hung up, a smile lingering on my lips. Once I ended the call, smiling, I glanced at the clock - 6:30 pm! Taehyung would be home soon.
Heading downstairs, I decided on a refreshing glass of banana milk. I went into the kitchen, humming along to a song playing softly in the background. I poured myself some banana milk and sipped it while scrolling through my phone, oblivious to the world around me.
Just then, the lift door opened, and I was completely oblivious to the figure entering the living room. The apartment door slid open, revealing Taehyung. My heart skipped a beat. So focused on my phone, that I didn't hear him arrive until it was too late. Panic surged through me. There I stood, in my soft, white bathrobe - a garment reserved for the privacy of my own room. I had completely forgotten to change because got distracted by Soojin's call. Instinct took over and I tried to hide behind the wall, but it was pointless-Taehyung, halfway into the living room, had already seen me, his eyes widening in surprise.
I was frozen, the banana milk forgotten. The image of myself, hiding behind the wall in a fluffy bathrobe, was burned into my memory. My cheeks flushed crimson, and I felt a wave of heat rise through my body.
Gosh, it's so embarrassing that he saw me trying to hide like that. No, I can't let him think I was, actually hiding from him.
I stepped out from behind the wall, my heart pounding. "H-hii," I tried to sound casual but mentally cursed for sluttering.
Taehyung, for a moment, seemed equally caught off guard. He stood there, his gaze lingering on me in the bathrobe--something I never wanted anyone to see me in. I could feel his eyes on me, and I wished I could melt into the floor.
After a moment, he snapped out of it
and replied, "Hi. I'm going to get ready. We have to leave at 7:30 PM." He cast another glance in my direction, a hint of a smile playing on his lips, before disappearing into his room.I stood there, my hand still clutching the cold glass of banana milk, feeling my cheeks burn with embarrassment, wishing I had just remembered to change. The way he had looked at me, had sent a shiver down my spine.
As soon as the door to Taehyung's room clicked shut, I practically sprinted up the stairs and raced to my room, slamming the door behind me. I leaned against it, my hand over my thumping chest, desperately trying to catch my breath. Pushing the memory aside, I focused on the task at hand. Dinner with his parents wouldn't wait. Finally, I settled on a light blue floral dress that fell just below my knees. It felt perfect for a casual dinner at home, something both elegant and comfortable.
After a quick application of makeup and a light spray of lavender perfume, I grabbed my purse and phone. With one final glance in the mirror, I took a deep breath, feeling ready.
Stepping downstairs, I found Taehyung waiting by the couch. He was dressed in a crisp off-white shirt and brown trousers, looking incredibly handsome, his outfit complementing his sharp features. Our eyes met as I walked down the staircase, and he didn't look away, watching me intently. My breath hitched in my throat. There was a strange intensity in his gaze.
When I reached him, he simply said, "Let's go so that we can reach on time."
We walked to the elevator in comfortable silence, the tension crackling between us. The short drive to his parent's place passed in a blur. As we pulled up to mansion, a tremor of nervousness ran through me. The Kim's Mansion, as it was likely called, was an imposing structure that spoke of wealth and prestige. It reminded me of the first time when I came here and I first met Taehyung and that's where it all started.
Taehyung came around to my side of the car and opened the door for me with a small gesture that sent a wave of warmth through me.
As we stepped into the Kim's mansion, Mrs. Kim's radiant smile enveloped us. She embraced Taehyung and me warmly, she said something in a gentle whisper in his ear- that I couldn't quite catch. Then she took my hand and led me inside, asking, "How are you doing, my child? Have you settled well in your new home?"
"I'm doing well, thank you, Mrs. Kim," I replied, trying to sound composed. "And yes, I'm settling in just fine."
"That's wonderful to hear," she said, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. "Let's get you both inside. Dinner is almost ready, and your father is excited to see you."
I glanced back at Taehyung, who gave me a small, encouraging smile before following us inside.
As we entered the dining room, the table was set for a sumptuous family dinner. Mr. Kim, Taehyung's father, greeted us with a hug and a warm smile.
As we all settled around the dining table, the conversation flowed smoothly. Suddenly, Mrs. Kim turned to us and said, "Taehyung, Yena," she began, "it came to our attention that neither of you have taken a single day off since your wedding! Such dedication to work, Why so?
Mrs. Kim chuckled, her eyes sparkling. "Oh, don't worry," she teased. "I have a feeling a little vacation is exactly what you both need. And if you can't seem to find the time to plan your honeymoon yourselves, well then, maybe we'll have to take matters into our own hands."
I choked on a sip of water, the word "honeymoon" hanging heavy in the air. My cheeks burned, surprised by Mrs. Kim's directness. Taehyung, ever the diplomat, cleared his throat. "Mom," he said gently, "let's just enjoy dinner, shall we? We can discuss our vacation plans later."
Mrs. Kim smiled, not ready to let go just yet. "Just wait a little bit, someone else is joining us," she said.
