Evelyn was pouring a drink for a regular when she heard her name being called. "What's up, Will?" she asked as she walked up to her friend. "There's a guy over there, asking for a drink. I'm tied up right now, would you mind?" Will gestured to the man and Evelyn smiled. "Yeah, of course" she nodded, patting him on the shoulder before putting the towel over her shoulder, heading towards the customer.
"What can I get you?" she asked with a smile, leaning against the bar. "A pint of bitter, please" the man smiled back and she nodded, grabbing a glass. "Heterochromia" the man said slowly and Evelyn sighed, passing him his drink.
"If you're gonna harass me about my eyes, you can get the fuck outta this bar" she said quietly, leaning towards him over the counter. "I wouldn't dream of harassing you" the man chuckled. "My name is Xavier. Charles Xavier" he held out his hand and she raised an eyebrow. "Two first names, huh?" she said playfully, shaking his hand.
"Evelyn" she smiled, taking her hand back. "Pretty name for a pretty lady" he smirked softly and her smile widened. "Heterochromia was in reference to your eyes, as you're aware, which I have to say, are stunning" Charles spoke, maintaining eye contact with her. "That's a new one" she commented, a blush creeping up her neck.
"One brown, one blue. It's a mutation. It's a very groovy mutation" he continued and Evelyn chuckled. "Evelyn, you're done for the night!" Will called and Evelyn sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. "It was nice meeting you" she said softly. "Wait. Let me buy you a drink. Please?" Charles stopped her and she smiled. "One drink" she replied before walking around to his side of the bar.
He pulled out a barstool for her and she shook her head with a smile, sitting down. "A whiskey, please?" Charles asked Norman, Evelyn's replacement and Evelyn opened her mouth in shock. "How did you..." she breathed. "Lucky guess" he smirked and Evelyn couldn't take her eyes off of him.
Now that she was actually closer to the man, she couldn't help but admire how handsome he was. Crystal blue eyes that felt like they pierced all the way to your soul, a smile that could light up the room, fluffy brunet hair sat atop his head and from the way he talked, he was definitely a professor.
"You, Evelyn, are a mutant" Charles flirted. Evelyn's smile dropped momentarily but it was back on her face immediately. "Normally I at least get to have a sip of my drink before I get called deformed" she replied sarcastically as Norman handed her the glass.
"Tell me, how is that seduction technique working out for you?" she asked, eyebrows raised as she took a sip of her whiskey. "I'll tell you in the morning" Charles smiled and Evelyn nodded. "Now, that's better" she chuckled softly.
"No, seriously though, you mustn't knock it. Mutation took us from single-celled organisms-" Charles started. "To being the dominant form of reproductive life on this planet. Infinite forms of variation with each generation, all through mutation" Evelyn cut him off and Charles laughed softly with his eyes wide. "You know your stuff" he nodded.
"I read a lot" she shrugged. He smiled as he rested his head on his hand, almost studying her with his eyes. "You should be careful" she said simply. "I'm sorry?" he frowned and she leaned in to the side of him, her mouth next to his ear. "One day, your little magic trick is gonna get you caught" she whispered and Charles turned his head to look at her, their faces inches apart.
"So, are you a professor?" she asked nonchalantly, leaning back as Charles just blinked, a ghost of a smile on his lips. Before he could answer, a pretty blonde woman walked up to them. "Hi. I guess I have to buy my own drink" she said unimpressed and Evelyn put her glass down. "I'm sorry. One cola" Charles turned towards Norman.
"Charles here was just telling me that I'm like one of the first sea creatures that grew legs" Evelyn said, a gleam in her eye. "Well, I'd say you are a tiny bit sexier" Charles smirked at her and she grinned. "I'm sorry. This is my sister, Raven" Charles chuckled. "Hi" Raven smiled, holding her hand out. "Evelyn" she shook her hand.
