This was one of the many moments that Evelyn considered Erik to be truly insane. She was watching from a few feet away as he explained his plan to Charles, who was just as shocked as she was.
"You're sure?" Charles asked as he held the gun to Erik's head. "I'm sure" Erik answered with a nod. The three of them were silent as Chares prepared himself but Evelyn could see his hand shaking.
"No, no. I can't. I'm sorry. I can't shoot anybody point blank, let alone my friend" Charles shook his head as he put the gun down. Erik grabbed Charles' arm and raised the gun to his head once more.
"Oh, come on. You know I can deflect it. You're always telling me I should push myself" Erik said, defending his point. "If you know you can deflect it, then you're not challenging yourself" Charles explained.
Evelyn quickly grabbed the gun and shot at Erik. Just as she had expected, he stopped the bullet easily and dropped it to the ground.
"Even with the element of surprise, it's not a challenge for you" Evelyn sighed, clicking the safety on and lowering the gun. "What happened to the man who was trying to raise a submarine?" Charles asked.
"What? I can't. Something that big? I need the situation. The anger" Erik retorted, taking the gun from the woman. "The anger's not enough" Charles shook his head. "Well, it's gotten the job done all this time" Erik replied.
"No, it's nearly got you killed all this time" Evelyn corrected and Erik gave her a look. "Hey, come here" Charles patted Erik's arm and grabbed Evelyn's wrist, dragging her away from the stone path. "Let's try something a little more challenging" Charles said.
"See that?" Charles pointed to the satellite in the distance. "Try turning it to face us" he said. Evelyn smirked at the brunet, who was still holding onto her wrist, and she slipped her hand into his. Erik raised his hands and tried to move the satellite, a noise being heard in the distance.
His entire body was shaking with effort and his face had gone a bright red and he finally gave up, breathing heavily as he leant against the stone fence. "You know, I believe that true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity" Charles said and Erik turned to look at them.
"Would you mind if I..." Charles raised a hand near his temple, moving his fingers about and Erik shook his head. Charles placed two fingers to his temple and closed his eyes for a moment, his grip tightening on Evelyn's hand and when he opened his eyes, Erik gasped softly.
They stayed unmoving for a few moments, and Evelyn watched as tears pooled in both the men's eyes. Erik finally blinked and tears fell from his eyes as Charles dropped his hand, a tear sliding down his cheek that he quickly brushed away.
"What did you just do to me?" Erik asked softly and Charles and Evelyn walked up to him, un-attaching their hands. "I...accessed the brightest corner of your memory system. It's a very beautiful memory, Erik. Thank you" Charles explained, leaning against the stone fence.
"I didn't know I still had that" Erik admitted, looking between Charles and Evelyn. "You can't stop yourself from feeling anger. Or rage, whichever one it is" Evelyn spoke up and both men looked at her. "But it is so easy to forget happiness" she continued as she looked towards the satellite.
"The anger you feel? It'll always be there. It doesn't go away. But if you can feel happiness, or serenity, or love, then you start to forget it's there" she sighed, brushing away a tear that slid down her cheek. "You sound like you're talking from experience" Erik said.
"That's because I am. I just got good at hiding" she finally looked at them and they both realised just how broken the woman actually was. "There is so much more to you than you know, Erik. And it's in there. You just need to learn how to find it" Evelyn smiled sadly.
