The next day, Austin and Emma sat in the doctor’s office, waiting anxiously for the results of Emma’s examination. The sterile smell of the office brought back a flood of memories for Austin, memories of his mother’s battle with breast cancer. He tried to stay strong for Emma, but inside, he was a wreck.
The doctor entered the room, holding a folder with Emma’s test results. “Mr. and Mrs. Butler, thank you for coming in so quickly. We did find a lump, and we need to do a biopsy to determine if it’s cancerous. It’s important to stay positive until we have more information.”
Emma squeezed Austin’s hand, drawing strength from his presence. “We’ll do whatever we need to,” she said, her voice steady.
