Over the next few days, as they waited for the biopsy results, Austin and Emma leaned on each other for support. Austin tried to keep Emma’s spirits up with his usual humor, but sometimes the weight of their worries was too much to bear.
One evening, as they sat on the porch watching the sunset, Emma rested her head on Austin’s shoulder. “I’m scared, Austin.”
Austin wrapped his arm around her, holding her close. “I know, sweetheart. I am too. But we’re in this together. No matter what happens, we’ll face it together.”
Emma looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude. “Thank you for being my rock.”
Austin kissed her forehead. “You’ve always been my rock too, Emma. We’ll get through this, I promise.”
