ALEC HAD LEFT ARLINA ALONE FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THE NEXT DAY, he apparently had a special surprise for the girl and told her to stay put. So, Arlina sat on the windowsill, reading one of the old books from her mate's bookshelf quietly.
A few footsteps and a knock at the door caught Arlina's attention, so she stood up and walked over to the door, opening it and smiling slightly when she saw Jane stood nervously on the other side.
"Hello, Arlina." Jane nodded, but she didn't return the smile.
"Hi, Jane, I didn't expect to see you, come in." Arlina opened the door wider, allowing her to come in and she closed the door carefully when Jane was inside. The witch twin sat on Alec's bed, wiping her skirt and placing her intertwined hands on her lap, looking at Arlina.
The redhead was mostly confused but she was also over the moon about Jane's appearance, hoping the girl was up for a civil discussion about the current events between herself and the twins.
Arlina grabbed the book from the windowsill and put it back on the shelf before she turned to face Jane with an expectant look, "So, what brings you here?"
"I wanted to speak with you... about Alec." Jane looked down at her hands with a hint of nervousness in her eyes, Arlina watched as the girl shook her head lightly and looked back up confidently, clearly trying to hide the fact that she was scared.
"Of course." The Cullen girl nodded for her to continue, sitting down onto the desk chair, sending the girl a reassuring smile.
"Okay, I know we haven't been on the best of terms and I've been quite unfair towards yourself and my brother... about you both being together. I just-" She cut herself off, and Arlina furrowed her brows, playing with the ring on her finger, she allowed Jane time to be able to compose herself — it must be hard for her, and Arlina understood, "Ever since my brother and I were turned, we only ever had each other, and now, I feel as though you've stolen him from me. Whenever I try to discuss important events with him, he's always distracted... on his device... talking to you!"
Arlina flinched slightly, she wasn't exactly scared but she was felt guilty. Maybe if she ignored Alec's pleading with her, Jane wouldn't be feeling this way. But, she didn't regret it, she was in love with Alec, but the fact that she possibly broke the twins apart caused her heart to crack only ever so slightly.
"I'm sorry, Jane." Arlina sent the girl a small smile, hoping Jane would forgive her and understand.
"No. It isn't your fault, I apologise for my outburst. I suppose it's just mother nature doing it's job, it's neither yours or Alec's fault. I shouldn't have ever blamed any of you." Jane patted her dress-covered legs lightly and attempted to smile towards Arlina, causing the aforementioned girl's eyes to brighten with shock. It was the first time she'd seen the girl genuinely smile without it being towards someone she was causing pain to.
"Jane, it's completely understandable that you felt like you had to blame Alec and I. It's okay to feel that way. I suggest speaking with Alec about how you're feeling, and have felt, too. And again, don't feel sorry about anything, I understand." Arlina smiled, and she reached over, placing her warm hand on Jane's. The blonde's eyes lit up as she felt the warmth touch her skin and she looked up at Arlina with a questioning look, "Oh, it's my gift."
"Pyrokinesis?" Jane raised a brow, wrapping her hands around the redhead's, enjoying the warm sensation and Arlina nodded curtly.
"I suppose so." She responded with a smile and Jane grinned for the first time in forever. One thing Jane hated about vampirism was never being able to feel warmth, and with Arlina, she could finally be able to feel heat again — it made her happy.
The door opened and Alec walked in, his brows immediately furrowing as he caught sight of his sister and mate holding hands, "What's happening?" He tilted his head slightly and closed the door behind him, his eyes fixated on Arlina, who was smiling gently along with Jane, "Why is Jane smiling?"
"Well, my dearest Alec." Jane patted Arlina's hand once and stood up from the bed with a smile, "I think I quite like your mate, and her wonderful gift. Don't mess it up." She wiped down her dress and walked away from the bed and past Alec, who was still staring at Arlina questionably but only now his lips were upturned ever so slightly, "I also need to speak with you later."
"Alright." Alec glanced over at his sister, watching as she nodded at his mate and left the room. Once she was out of earshot, he walked towards Arlina with a confused, but shocked look, "What happened?"
"Hello to you, too." She responded sarcastically, she leaned forward and kissed his cheek before she stood from the chair and began packing things in her bag, "Jane came over, she spoke with me about some things and it turns out, she's actually apologetic about how she's been behaving. I don't blame her, of course, I just feel sort of sad for her."
"Why?" Alec shuffled around on the bed, making himself comfortable and he slouched slightly, watching his mate move around the room gracefully, grabbing things and placing them into her bag.
"Well, the only person she's ever had is you. She hasn't found her other half yet, and because you have, she's all alone, and I can understand." Arlina stopped and looked over at him with a sad smile, his eyebrows were scrunched together as he played with his hands, watching her every move intently.
"You can understand?" He asked.
"Before I was saved by Emmett, I was alone. I couldn't remember my human life, I still can't, but I was roaming the streets all alone, confused, with nobody around to help me. I still don't even know who I was turned by, or how, or where... or when. I don't remember how long I was roaming the streets for, I just know it happened." Arlina explained and she zipped up her duffle bag, pulling it over her shoulder. Alec was now stood, a sad expression on his face and he moved towards her, wrapped his arms around her comfortingly.
"I don't think I could ever imagine feeling alone, I suppose I've always had Jane. Do you ever still feel that same loneliness?" He asked as he rested his chin on her shoulder and she exhaled against his chest with a sigh.
"Thankfully not." She pulled away and placed her warm hands on either side of his face with a smile, "I found my family, and I now have you."
She planted her lips gently onto his, both moving in unison and he suddenly pulled away with a smirk on his face.
"I'm never leaving you, so you don't have to ever feel that way again." Alec spoke quietly, almost in a whisper, and he smiled at her as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her in closer and pressing his lips to hers once more.
