Don't meet in real life.

— I can’t believe you printed it.

She turns to look at me like I just insulted her dog.

— Excuse me? – Her hand goes to her chest in dramatic offense, but I can see the playful sparkle in her eyes. Ugh. Every time she looks at me like that, I turn into a helpless puppy, ready to follow her commands. Who has eyes that literally shine like diamonds? Exactly, my girlfriend does. — This was my birthday gift last year. Of course, I was gonna have a paper version.

I sigh and roll onto my stomach, propping my chin on my hands, trying to get comfortable on her bed.

— Ah, you mean the broken, cringe, raw version of the story?

She squints at me, and I already know there’s a lecture coming.

— You mean the adorable – she takes a step closer, and my stomach flutters. — Dedicated, – Another step. Our eyes lock. — Raw version?

I tilt my chin up as she closes the gap between us. Now she’s right in front of me. Taller. Using every inch of that height difference to her advantage.

Oh, I see what’s happening here.

The little smirk on her lips is confirmation enough.

— That’s what I thought, sweetheart.

Holy. Cow.

Is this woman even real?

And all mine?

I get to call her my girlfriend?

I’m such a lucky bitch.

But I refuse to let her use that top energy on me just yet. Nuh-uh.

— Well, sweetheart – I push up onto my knees, now a few inches taller thanks to the bed’s height, and tug her closer by the collar of her shirt, our lips barely touching. — I’m not looking at that version again, so you’re free to keep it all to yourself.

— Can I keep you too?

She licks her lips, and the silence around us is so thick I can hear my own heart trying to escape my chest. But I’m not the only one. I can feel her pulse hammering just as wildly.

Her pupils dilate. I love when they do that. Her eyes are an open book, and right now, every page is screaming want.

— You already have me.

I press a soft kiss against her lips. Just a small touch. It might look like I’m teasing, but really, I’m just grounding myself. Making sure she’s real.

Making sure she’s here after all those months apart.

— Oh, then let me rephrase that. – She nibbles at my lip, and a sigh escapes me as my eyes flutter shut. So much for keeping the upper hand. — Can I keep you forever?

When I open my eyes again, she’s already staring, intense and unblinking. I feel naked under her gaze, like she’s reading straight into my soul.

And those flustered cheeks…

She thinks they make her look younger, but all they do is remind me of a very specific moment when they were just as red.

She’s a mirage.

A goddess among humans.

— Is that even a question? – I whisper.

I thought I had it bad when we were doing long-distance, but now? Now I’m completely, hopelessly whipped.
