these were one of the rare moments where suho comes in clutch. and when he does, he does it well and without leaving any time for contemplation or suspicion. however, his responses are always ones that confuse me as well.
"someone who doesn't like hyojin secretly recorded a video of her and someone having an argument. it just makes her look bad but we think someone did it purposely to defame her," suho gives a watered down and half false explanation to jugyeong. the brown-haired girl with round eyes gasps and says, "that's terrible!"
"hyojin, i wouldn't worry too much about it. from the start, you've always been a good friend to me and you kept my secret well. whatever happened in the past is in the past, okay? we'll continue supporting you like always," jugyeong reassures me. i watch her grin at me with her pearly teeth. her genuineness is comforting.
she drops the subject pretty quickly. i'm guessing that she understands pretty well what it's like to discuss a secret you don't really want to talk about.
for the next few days, i don't visit seojun and suho since i officially got accepted into the dance team. dance practices started immediately and it's have been pretty tiring now that i've been rusty for a while.
i didn't even know i got accepted into the dance team until kim chorong burst into my classroom during break time earlier in the week. he was so ecstatic for me that i couldn't tell if he was more excited than me. and of course, he told seojun who sent me a congratulatory message and promised to treat me to a meal to celebrate after his hospital discharge.
and now it's the end of the school week yet i am still struggling with my stamina.
i guess i've gotten pretty lazy over the period where i wasn't actively practicing and exercising all the time.
"one more time, then we'll wrap it up!" the dance team leader calls from her position at the front of the room.
as a team, we strike our ending poses before abandoning our dance positions to retreat for water, run outside for fresh air or simply collapse onto the floor for air.
i clutched my sides while panting as i grabbed onto the rail at the back on the room. i make small talk with my fellow dance team members about the choreo and it feels like only seconds when the team leader resumes the music and we scramble back into position.
every single detail, whether it be with my fingers or the tilt of my head- it had to be perfect. on beat, in rhythm and expressed with the energy in all of my cells. i gave my all to dance and through this, i found the electrifying feeling of satisfaction.
with a slight caveat, which was my declined stamina.
at the end of our two hour dance practice, the team leader rounds everyone up in a half circle so that we're facing her as she tells us to continue practicing and polishing our moves.
"we're going to have a small group of us participate in the upcoming saebom festival talent show where the winning prize is three thousand dollars," she announces, causing a round of gasps and excited chatter to spread throughout the room.
"however, i'd say the real prize is the dance recommendation from our coach for your college applications and her possibly recruiting you into her dance company," more cheering were heard throughout the room. it became obvious that everyone wanted to sign up for the small group participating in the saebom festival talent show.
"i've already preselected notable dance team members who have shown determination and immaculate energy during our dance practices so far," the dance team leader breaks the news. a few sighs and sounds of "aww no" were heard as she began reading five names off her clipboard as the ones selected for the talent show.
