Chapter 34

For a moment, I stood there, awkwardly staring at her.

The shock I felt was probably displayed on my face. She looked like she wasn't moved at my reaction, like she expected me to be this surprised.

She finally spoke, "Can I come in?"

I quickly collected myself and tucked loose hair behind my ear, saying, "Yeah, uh, sure."

I stepped aside, giving her room to step into my house and once she had done that, I closed the door.

Her eyes wandered round my apartment. Not in a weird way, simply in a 'taking in my environment' kind of way. I observed her as she stayed silent, trying to tell by her expressions what she was thinking and what she was going to do next.

Did she find out that I kissed Dean?

Was she here to tell me to stay away from her man? To pull my hair even?

She didn't look like the type to fight over a man and even if she wanted to, she would've launched for me the minute I opened the door.

Not being able to take the looming awkward silence anymore, I said, "Can I get you something to drink? Water maybe?"

She looked at me, "No, thank you."

She proceeded to make her way to the living room and I just followed suit weirdly behind her. She paused in her tracks when she stood beside my couch and turned to face me.

Taking a deep breath, she said, "I know you're probably confused as to why I'm here. I was hoping we could talk."

I felt the anxiety in my chest go up a notch.

But I nodded and motioned for her to have a seat as I sat as well.

After another few moments of silence, I opened my mouth to speak, "So, what did you-"

"Dean told me what happened between you guys." She said, suddenly. Like she had been practicing how she'd say it in her head even before she set foot here.

"I-"

"He told me that day actually." She added. "A little while after you left."

I couldn't quite decipher her expression.

While she looked like she was saddened about the entire thing, she also had a much more calmer and normal aura as she sat beside me. Different from the hostile energy that used to radiate off her when we were in the same room

"He told me about how he called you when he was having his panic attack and how you came running." Amber continued. "He told me about the outburst he had and how you were strangely able to make him feel better. He told me you two kissed, just a few minutes before I walked in."

"Amber," I stuttered, honestly not knowing what to say and feeling bad, "I should never have done that."

She let out a breath, "I know you feel bad about it. Dean told me that you pulled away out of respect for me or something like that. And I know Dean doesn't lie, which was why he couldn't even act like everything was okay for long and lie to my face."

I didn't know what I was expecting but a part of me wasn't really expecting Dean to tell her what happened and most especially, so soon. I know that sounds awful coming from me, who was also a woman that wouldn't appreciate if someone hid something like that from me.

"I was hurt when he told me, of course." She nodded. "But honestly speaking, it was a long time coming."

I gave a confused look.
