Chapter 48

"Aww, so Dean really is leaving next week?" Lydia asked, sending me a sad look from where she sat on her office chair.

I, on the other hand, was sprawled on her couch on my stomach, while my head rested upon the arm of the couch that my hands were hung limply over.

"Yeah," I verified, blowing raspberry, "he is."

"Aww, I bet that makes you very sad." She pouted.

"It does." I let out a sigh. "Last night, he brought it up and um, it just kind of messed with my head a little."

"How so?" Lydia enquired.

"I don't know, I don't think he feels that we'll be able to make long distance work." I expressed my honest thoughts.

"Did he say that?" Lydia asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Not particularly, no."

My conversation with Dean last night scared me in more ways than I let on. Hearing Dean talk about our relationship like we wasn't certain and like he didn't have faith that we could do what we had set out to do was truly anxiety inducing.

I knew what I was up against when I drove all the way to his hostel that night and expressed my feelings. I never believed in long distance relationships before but for Dean, I was determined to give it a try. I never stopped to ask him if that was what he really wanted.
I was starting to question if he really wanted to do this.

While I was aware that it was a normal human emotion to feel the way he did last night, it also made me question a lot of things. Like if our relationship would actually be able to survive on phone calls and virtual experiences, seeing as we had never tried it before.

The entire thing was simply nerve racking.

"Maybe you just misinterpreted what he said." Lydia said in his defense. "He's probably just missing you already."

"To be honest, I miss him already too." I let out yet another sigh. "He stayed here just two months out of the three years I've lived in Bath and suddenly, I can't imagine this place without him."

Lydia nodded and I could feel her empathy all the way from where she sat.

"I might cry when he leaves." I pouted.

"Might?" Lydia laughed.

I let out a child-like whine, running a hand through my hair.

"Sweetie, you and Dean are gonna be fine." She tried to assure me. "I have never seen a realer endgame than you two. You guys are literally the poster couple for romantic love stories. And God didn't let your paths collide again just so you could get back together for a few months and then break up. You're gonna make it work."

I nodded vigorously, "You're right."

"You're damn right I am."

"I just need to turn the volume down in my head because it's getting pretty loud in here." I said, tapping my index finger against my temple.

"Yes honey, you do." Lydia said before adjusting in her seat so she was facing me. "Now that I think about it, we never got to do our double date thing."

I let out a soft chuckle, "I'll run it by him."

"Yay!" She exclaimed cutely.

Lydia's phone went off with a notification and she picked it up from her desk and began texting on it. I tried to get my mind to go other places as my eyes wandered aimlessly around Lydia's office, letting out occasional sighs here and there.
