Chapter 38
"Oh, my God!" Lydia's scream was loud enough for the entire building to hear. "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!""Lydia!" I whisper-yelled, a small chuckle stifling through. "Pipe down!"
"I'm trying to, I'm just so excited!" She beamed.
I couldn't help but squeal along with her, "Me too, me too!""Finally!" She exclaimed, a very bright smile on her face. "It's about damn time!"
It truly did make me happy to see Lydia react to my great mews as though it was hers. Squealing along with her, in that moment, reminded me of how lucky I was to have found a true friend in her.
Dean and I basically spent the rest of the weekend enjoying each other's company in my house. I loved how he talked about how much he liked how my house looked and how homey and comfortable it felt.
After practically spending three days straight with each other, getting up for work this morning felt like pulling teeth. I had to get ready before 8 AM, while he had to head back to the hotel so he could also get ready for work.
I'm sure we kissed each other goodbye a hundred times this morning.Anyway, Lydia's office was the first place I rushed to immediately I got to work, given that I did owe her details. Although I didn't see the need to use my phone much when I was with Dean, I did send Lydia a vague text telling her that we were back together and that I would fill her in on Monday.
Which was today.
I told her everything that happened since I dropped her off at Carlton's Friday night. I told her how Amber showed up at my front door and how I ended up at Dean's front door, pouring my heart out.
"I know, I still can't believe it myself." I ran a hand through my hair, my heart beating vigorously in my chest. "It feels so delicate, you know? Like something you'd handle carefully so that no harm comes to it."
"It's the honeymoon phase all over again." Lydia smiled at me.
I felt heat flood my cheeks.
"Ugh, I am so proud of you for taking charge and owning your narrative. You deserve this happiness, darling." She said, maintaining the excited look on her face as she held my shoulders in both of her hands.
"Thank you, Lydia."
"Oh, I can't wait to really get to know him as your boyfriend. Double dates, friendship hang outs and so on." She chirped on.
I smiled, "That would actually be bloody awesome."
"You can even invite him to the monthly office lunch this month." She suggested.
"You know, I was actually already thinking about that." I said, leaning on her office desk.
"It might be somewhat awkward for Connor though." She stated. "Have you told him about it?"
I shook my head, "No. We haven't spoken since Friday. But I will tell him, if he's emotionally prepared to speak to me."
"I hope he handles it well." She said with a nod. "What about Kendra?"
"Huh?"
"How did she react when you told her?" She asked.
"Um..."
"Wait, you haven't told her?!" Lydia seemed surprised by that information.
It was quite a norm for Lydia that I always told Kendra important things first, so I understand why it came as quite a shock to her that I hadn't even mentioned anything regarding this to her.
I wanted to tell Kendra, I really did. But there was a way she acted whenever Dean was involved.
"I'm going to tell her. Today, even." I told Lydia. "It's just, it's going to be a very long conversation seeing as there's a lot I haven't been telling her, like realizing I was still in love with him the night of the LAB awards."
