Chapter 59Audrey had agreed to come over to talk.
And I gave Lydia a call immediately our conversation over the phone ended. And it wasn't long before she showed up at my front door.We all waited eagerly for Audrey to arrive.
Honestly, it felt surreal that she finally responded to us. It felt like there was so much mystery surrounding what happened with her and Connor and where she had been this entire time and why she completely ghosted everyone.
I had a lot of questions for her, to be honest.
Because we had a real friendship, regardless of anything. While we waited, Lydia filled Dean and I on how the conversation with her friends turned out, which kind of went south at the end if you ask me. We also told her about our conversation with Mr Flores and everything that led up to him quitting his job.
Lydia was just highlighting how much of a terrible person Connor was when the doorbell rang. I sprung up my seat immediately and headed for the front door.
I wasted no time in unlocking and opening the door, revealing Audrey dressed in a simple black tee and blue jeans.
She looked different than the last time I saw her. I wasn't sure how to explain it but there was something about her aura that had simply changed. She looked like she had put on a bit of weight, while looking somewhat tired too.
She looked good, nonetheless.
Audrey had always had a striking beauty that made her noticed in any room she walked in.
"So," she said, clicking her tongue, "are you gonna let me in or are you just gonna keep staring at me?"
"Always a pleasure to see you, Audrey." I said to her as I moved aside.
"Likewise, Grace." She remarked back as she stepped into the house.
I closed the door and led her into the house while she let her eyes observe her environment.
She didn't seem quite bothered when she noticed Lydia and Dean's presence. She simply said, "Hey Lydia."
"Hey Audrey." Lydia said back. "Nice to see you after such a long time."
"Right." She said and focused her attention on Dean. "And you must be Dean Ryan."
Dean nodded, "You are correct. Nice to meet you."
"I can't believe you two got back together." She said with a small smile. "Grace told me little details about your love story when I practically begged her to after reading her book."
Dean chuckled, "Is that so?"
"Yup." She said before taking a seat on one of the sofas. "But, I bet that's not what we're here to talk about, so... let's get to it."
"Alright then." I said, taking a seat beside Dean.
It was quiet for a moment. The silence was somewhat awkward because it seemed like everyone in the room was passing this particular look, like they were wondering where to even start from.
"Look," Audrey rolled her eyes and leaned forward, "I know why I'm here, okay? I heard what happened at Spring last week and I know this is all about Connor."
Dean, Lydia and I shared a look.
"You're right." I said to her, tired of tiptoeing around the topic since she appeared not to be bothered. "Why exactly did you quit your job?"
"Grace, if you want to ask what you want to ask me, then just go ahead." She said bluntly. "You want to know if Connor did the same thing he did to you to me."
