The duke and I rode in a fancy carriage with a few guards following behind on horses. Alaska and Drago were flying above us and trying to stay out of sight of people. When we made it to the castle royal guards were standing in a line in front of the door as if they were making a hallway outside. My familiars landed gracefully beside the carriage, which spooked most of the guards but they stayed at their posts. Thankfully the doors were big enough that they could fit, but Drago had to be careful of the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
We made it to the throne room very quickly and were told to enter and give our greetings a few guards opened the doors for us and I followed Arthur inside with Drago and Alaska following beside me. Arthur stopped a few yards in front of the throne and bowed his head. I quickly lowered my head and curtsied as well.
"I have brought my daughter and her familiars as you have asked your majesty."
With his introduction I kept my head lowered as I introduced myself.
"This humble one greets his majesty, the wise and powerful ruler of Luminara, King Xerxes Luminara. My name is Liliana Kingsley. It is an honor to meet you." After my little speech, the king let out a loud laugh.
"I thought you said she grew up as a commoner, even I wouldn't be able to tell she was a commoner! Lift your head child, let me see your face."
With permission, she slowly lifted her head to get a good look at the king.
He had long white hair and blue eyes. Even Lily could not deny the fact that he was a beautiful man.
"I see you brought the familiars like I asked. They are larger than I would have thought. Tell me Arthur how do you keep them fed?"
"Lily has instructed them to hunt their meals. They go hunting in the woods close to my estate."
"Yes that is probably best, I will send a letter to the guild to make sure no adventurers go into that section of the woods. It would be best if hunters didn't kill down their food supply."
"Thank you for your kind offer and your grace," Arthur said as he bowed his head again. The king stood up from his chair and walked closer.
"May I see them up close?"
"Of course your majesty, they are very intelligent and are very tame. They would not hurt you if you tried to touch them." Lily said as she gave her familiars a look that said be good. The two majestic animals walked up to the king and sat down in front of him. Xerxes started to walk around them and kept giving them compliments which made them feel even more prideful than they already did.
"How did you tame such animals? In the letter, I was told you share contracts with both of them."
"Alaska has been with me since I was young and has stayed by my side since then. I found Drago when he was still an egg in a cave. I hatched him by feeding him my magic. They have been protecting and teaching me since I was young."
"So it is true that you can speak to a contracted familiar?"
"I don't know if you would call it speaking, but we can communicate through our link."
" Fascinating, you say they taught you?"
"Alaska taught me how to use and control my magic. After meeting Drago he taught me what he could as well."
"Your blessing must be strong if you could make contracts with these beautiful creatures. Why don't we go ahead with the test then."
He sat back down on his thrown and clapped his hands. An older-looking man with a long white beard came into the room placed an object on a table in front of Lily and walked back out.
She thought it looked like a fancy snow globe with a large crystal inside. She got distracted by the design and the beautiful craftsmanship it would take to make one."Go ahead and place your hand on the crystal. Try to focus on the mana flowing through your body."
With that, she nodded her head and placed her hand on the glass ball. She could feel it sucking at her magic, but it didn't hurt. The ball started to glow before the picture could be seen clearly.
"Infinity?"The king and Arthur were confused at the symbol, but even more confused when the little girl spoke of something called infinity.
"Speak child, what do you see."
"It's an infinity sign, but I'm not sure what it means in this particular circumstance."
"What do you know about infinity?"
Lily tilted her head to the side and looked over at Arthur who nodded his head.
"It means something never-ending. Like a number too great to count."
"My dear, have you ever felt drained of mana from casting too much?" The king asked. He was smiling, but Lily couldn't tell if it was good or bad. She tried thinking of all the times she practiced magic in her old village. She would feel exhausted if she used magic to run a far distance but she couldn't think of a time she felt drained of mana.
"Not that I can think of. The links I have to my familiars allow them to take as much of my mana as they need, but I've never felt drained before."
"This is extraordinary! Arthur my friend you sure have great luck." The king said with a big smile as he let out a loud laugh.
"Thank you, your highness." Arthur had a smug smile on his face that made Lily want to roll her eyes. Technically she found him first.
"I believe your blessing is "infinite magic". It seems you have been blessed by the goddess to never run dry of magic. Perhaps that is why you can use different elements that others are not capable of. With a blessing like this, you're going to have a lot of trouble in the future." Xerxes rested his chin on his palm as he looked to be thinking of some grand plan. His eyes grew wide as he shot off from his throne, apparently coming up with something.
"I've got the perfect solution! I'll just make you a princess. No one would dare mess with a princess of Luminara." the king looked proud of his plan. Lily however was frozen in shock at what the king had said. Did the king want to adopt her now, wasn't Arthur supposed to be her father?
