The king sent a letter with the duke to give to Liliana. He thanked her for her gifts and gave her a list of the items he wanted to order from her in the future and how much he would pay her for them. At the end of his letter he told her how proud he was of his future daughter-in-law. Upon receiving the letter Lily was overwhelmed by the amount the king had offered her and flustered by his referencing her as his future daughter-in-law.
A few years later...
By the time Lily was fifteen, she had made a name for herself. Every knight in the kingdom used her enchanted gear and praised her as an angel for them. The enchanted bags were used to replace wagons of cargo and food supplies. The enchanted rings were used as basic combat gear. Not to mention the variety of weapons that were altered depending on rank and skills.
Lily had also saved enough money to retire young and live comfortably. Since she was the only person who could create her enchantments then they were extremely valuable. Because of their importance, anyone who wanted to purchase them had to request it from the king himself. If he denied them then there was nothing they could do.
She had also got the name of the ancient beast tamer, the flower of the kingdom, and the young prodigy. Although her life was peaceful and slow in the estate, everyone else in the kingdom was ablaze with gossip about the amazing child. Noble and commoners alike tried whatever they could to get a look at the young lady but the duke kept her hidden from the outside.
Eventually the king decided to have a ball to honor his future daughter in law. It was the perfect way to introduce her to the nobles and for her to finally meet her betrothed. Although she had been taking magic lessons with the young prince for almost five years at this point and even grown to like the young boy, Christopher was too scared to tell her his identity.
When the letter came to let the Dukes family know about the ball. Lily felt her self become nervous. She only left the dukes estate for her magic lessons and had yet to be introduced to noble society.
The maids helped her get ready to head to the castle for her magic lessons. She felt that she needed the distraction today to take her mind off of everyone rushing around the estate trying to prepare everything for the ball.
She had chosen to wear a simple white dress with blue flowers painted on the skirt. After her maids had given her a proud look of their handy work she left with both her familiars and flew to the castle training grounds. Once Lily landed she was greeted by her friend Chris who seemed to be waiting for their teacher. She landed close to him and ran up to him with a large smile on her face.
"Chris!"
The young boy turned his head and returned her smile as she got closer.
"Hey Lily"
"Where's Elros?" She asked as she tried looking over the training ground to find their teacher.
"He's not coming today. The king needed him for something regarding the ball coming up."
At the mention of the ball Christopher could see her smile start to fade before she covered it up.
"It seems like everyone is preparing for the ball. I was hoping for a distraction from it today at least." She looked down at her feet and started to fiddle with her hands.
"Are you not excited? You do realize that you're the guest of honor right?" He asked with a small chuckle.
She sighed and walked over to a tree to sit in the shade and Chris followed her.
"I wouldn't say I'm excited. I'm more worried about whether people will like me or not. I was born a commoner after all. I'm sure most of the nobles aren't too happy about me being in the same room as them. Plus there's the whole meeting my finance for the first time. I'm sure he'll take one look at me and hate me." She rested her head against the tree and closed her eyes and the wind blew on her face.
"You may have been a commoner but you've made a big name for yourself since you came here. Everyone is dying to meet you and get a look at the prodigy dukes daughter."
She looked at him and rolled her eyes.
"And I don't think you need to worry about your fiancé hating you. Everyone that meets you loves you. I'm sure he's proud to have someone as amazing as you as his future wife." He added with a slight blush to his cheeks.
"You can't know how he feels. When the king decided that we were going to be engaged I didn't even get a say in the matter. I'm sure it was the same for him. He probably already hates me for taking his chance of true love away."
She leaned her head against his shoulder as she watch the knights running laps around the training grounds. She had decided over the years with her family that she didn't want to leave them. Which meant she couldn't just run away from the engagement like she first planned. Her next best option would be to convince the prince to break it off himself so they could part their separate ways. She felt a warm hand reach for hers and tangle with her finger tips so she looked up to meet dark blue eyes that looked at her with fondness.
"I'm positive he doesn't hate you. You just can't see what everyone else sees in you."
She smiled up at her best friend and leaned back into his shoulder and closed her eyes.
"I'm sure he's more worried about you hating him." His voice was so soft and filled with worry that Lily could barely hear it. She decided to just relax and forget about that for now and she felt his other hand tracing circles onto her own. A small part of her wished the prince would be like Christopher and have the same comforting aura she felt when she was around him.
