The ball

The morning of the ball, Lily's maids woke her up to breakfast in bed and decided to spend the whole morning before the ball giving their lady a spa day. They all had noticed how uncomfortable their lady had been after they got the letter from the king about the ball. As a born commoner she was terrified to meet a bunch of nobles that would only hate her. Her maids, being commoners themselves, got along well with the young lady and she treated them kindly instead of how other nobles treated them.

Although their young miss was not a noble by blood, she gave off the aura of someone who made everyone around her feel at ease. The staff loved greeting Lily every time they saw her. It was like her aura was healing their souls just from being in her presence. Since Lily was blessed directly by the goddess when she was reborn, her magic felt divine to others. Since she had an infinite amount of mana, small amounts would slowly leak from her body. As long as she stayed calm then it wouldn't spread too far, but she learned that her emotions played a big part in her control.

She once got mad at Alex for hiding her favorite book from her as a joke and ended up breaking a few windows and melting all the candles in the estate. You didn't mean to do those things but your mana reacted to your emotions and caused some minor disasters. Thankfully she did not get scolded and instead got praised for her display of power. She still felt like she should have paid for the repairs, but the duke wouldn't even hear it. The dutches helped her learn to stay calm in frustrating situations to help her prevent it from happening again.

Lily snapped out of her thoughts when one of the maids started rubbing her feet as she tried not to giggle. She was very ticklish and it felt like torture. Her maids had been massaging her whole body and applying different oils to help soften her skin. Hours of peace and bliss had passed and Lily had almost forgotten about tonight. At least until one of the maids brought her dress in on a life-sized clothes mannequin. They were like the ones you would see in a mall except these were made of wood.

Her ballgown was beautiful and elegant, but it was also heavy

Her ballgown was beautiful and elegant, but it was also heavy. It had so many layers that she wondered how noble women wore them every day. Her long black hair was left half down while the top half was designed with zig zag braids going down her back. Once the dress was on and she slipped her shoes on, she stood in front of a tall mirror as her maids chose the perfect jewelry to go with it.

When the final product was done, the maids all gushed at how beautiful their lady was. She looked like an angel that descended just to bless them with her beauty. Her skin was light with a soft pink glow and her silky black hair flowed past her butt and her blue eyes sparkled. No one would question her nobility with an appearance like hers.

Her brother had knocked on her door and escorted her to their carriage. It took less time than Lily hoped to make it to the castle and be escorted by a butler to the main ballroom where all the guests were waiting. She looped her arm with Alex's as he led her through the large doors. The announcer loudly called their names making everyone stop talking and turn towards the doors. When Lily's name was called the entire room went silent as everyone stared at the hidden flower of the kingdom. No one could deny the girl's beauty. As she walked through the crowd she gave everyone gentle smiles as Alexander glared at the boys who dared to look at his sister. She was too gentle and kind for any man.

The dukes family stood in the middle of the ballroom as they talked to one another. Before anyone had the opportunity to approach them the doors opened again. This time announcing the king, queen, and crown prince. As they walked down the stairs, Lily could only stare in shock as her friend Chris walked behind the king and queen. Dressed in the finest clothing money could buy in the kingdom with the sword Lily herself made for her betrothed strapped to his hip. Of course, the king had his own sword as well since he always loved to show off when he had the chance.

As she watched them walk straight to her family she felt her heart beat speed up. When they stopped in front of them, the dukes family all gave their greetings to the royal family. Lily herself had curtsied low and elegant with her head tilted down as a sign of respect. When she lifted her head it was to see Chris standing in front of her with a gentle smile as he held his hand out for her own. Hesitantly she placed her small hand in his and blushed when he bent down and kissed it.

Her first meeting with her fiance turned out to not be what she expected. Since this was not their first meeting at all. She didn't know if she was glad about it since he was her friend or if she felt betrayed since he never told her. He technically didn't lie as he never talked about his family that much. But withholding information this large was still hurtful. Especially when she remembered all the times she talked about her engagement with him. Now that she thought about it, it was always him bringing the engagement up.

"It's lovely to see you again, Liliana." He spoke soft and sweet, but his voice was starting to deepen with age. She looked up at her best friend one more time before replying.

"Ah, yes... it's lovely to see you as well... your highness"
