Vee frowns at herself in the wardrobe mirror, the purple dress just looking... wrong.
She'd been so excited to try it on, ever since her rummaging through the thrift store's discount pile suddenly surfaced the gorgeous fabric! It was just so cool, a deep eggplant with a magenta sheen, the thin satin feeling so slinky-soft as she ran it through her hands and cooed in awe! She'd spent the whole bus-ride home eagerly imagining what it would look like, how the colours would shift and play in the light, how the fabric would move and sit, everything she'd need to understand to know how to shapeshift the amazing garment herself and wear it every single day!
And now she's standing here in her human shape, actually wearing the dress and trying to understand it, but everything just looks out of place. The glossy material bunches in places, hanging loose or stretching in others, the form fitting cut trying to emphasise a form she just doesn't have.
Her gold pupils widen: of course, she's the problem! Well that's an easy fix for a shapeshifter - she breathes out a soft and almost wet sound, a kind of hissing rattle, and watches her reflection grow taller. Instantly the dress fits better, no longer bunching as much around her waist. But it still hangs a little loose over her chest, stretched a little over her hips. She nods, and breathes in, another wet rattlehiss sounding as her hips narrow and her bust becomes non-non-existent. There it is!
She gleefully turns side to side, watching the magenta sheen dance over the curves it was meant to show off, looking so interesting, so unique! But wouldn't the colour look even better if she were paler? And with another wet rattlehiss, she is, her pale skin and golden pupils complementing the wonderful purple! Unlike her hair, shaggy green-blonde with teal-blue tips, super cool but not quite right for this dress! Maybe a complimentary colour, like violet, or pink, like Amity - and with a wet gasp Amity is staring back at her from the mirror.
She just stands there, staring at herself, at Amity, her golden irises bright in the mirror as she sees Amity in this dress! She barely notices Luz walking past the door, turns to see her comically backtracking into the doorway, whistling: "Well hey there cutie!"
She freezes, pale hand pointing at herself. "M-me?"
Luz smirks: "Yea, I mean just look at you! And that dress!" Luz bounds right up to her, holds up her hands as they both look down at the dress together. Luz whistles again, swearing under her breath: "Coñazo! So freaking pretty!"
"Isn't it!" She swishes side to side, "The fabric is so cool and colourful and it looks so wonderful and I love it I love it so much!"
Luz laughs: "It is very cool! Give us a spinny?"
She tilts her head, "What's a spinny?"
"You know," Luz squeezes one hand, lifting it up above the two of them. Luz smiles reassuringly as she brings a steady brown hand up to hold her pale shoulder, guiding her to turn, and keep turning, spinning with the skirt flaring out and gleaming in a swirl of neon purple as she giggles and laughs through her nose and falls into Luz's arms!
"S-sorry," she snorts a final time, pushing herself unsteadily upright, still feeling out her temporarily longer legs. She's about to say as much when she looks up-
Luz is smiling at her. She's done that before, but not like this, her bright hazel eyes filled with such intense warmth and such tender awe it makes her hearts race, a tingling heat spreading out to fill her fluttering chest!
Luz's wonderful smile becomes a smirk. "You're blushing again."
She touches her burning cheek: "Oh. I'm sorry."
Luz's smile returns to warmly reassuring: "I told you, you're so cute when you blush! And I really like knowing I'm the one causing it." Luz's smile becomes cheeky, and she leans closer, whispers in her frozen ear the words: "And when I said you were pretty, I didn't just mean the dress!"
