Y/n POV

I groaned as I walked into Mr. Clarkes class. I took my usual seat next to Dustin and Mike.

"How are you this morning?" Dustin asked me. I looked at him and yawned.

"There is your answer" I said as I put my head down on my desk. I was about to fall asleep before I heard the bell ring and I set my head up.

"Meet the human brain" Mr. Clarke said. He had a scale model on the brain setting on his desk. "I know. I know, it doesn't look like much. A little gross even, right? But consider this. There are a hundred billion cells inside of this miracle of evolution." Mr. Clarke went on. I looked up and saw Lucas and Dustin smile at eachother. No way they actually find this interesting. "All working as one. No, no, I did not misspeak. I did not stutter. A hundred billion." A sound of a girl blowing a bubble in the back of the classroom made me turn my head and stare at her. Before Mr. Clarke could go any farther with his boring speech, the door open.

"Ah, this must be our new student!" Mr. Clarke said, as the principal and a girl walked in. The girl had furry red hair that went past her shoulders, she had freckles all over, she wasn't smiling at all, she had a skateboard in her hand, baggy clothing and didn't seem happy to be here at all. She seemed cool.

"Indeed. All yours" Our principal said as he waved to us then walked out of the classroom. The girl went straight for the back of the classroom before Mr. Clarke stopped her. "Al right. Hold up. You don't get away that easy. Come on up. Don't be shy" He said as he the girl walked back and rolled her eyes. I kept liking this girl by the second. "Dustin drum roll" Mr. Clarke instructed.

Dustin gave a goofy smile and tapped on his desk. I looked over at him and let out a small smile.

"Class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage, Maxine!" Mr. Clarke said with a big smile.

"It's Max" the girl corrected. My face dropped. Mad Max?

"Sorry?" Mr, Clarke asked her.

"Nobody calls me Maxine. It's Max" Max corrected him.

"Mad Max" Dustin said to us, I rolled my eyes at him.

"Thank you for solving the case Sherlock" I said to him, Will let out a small giggle and Dustin glared at us.

"Well, all aboard Max." Mr. Clarke said, she walked to the back of the classroom and we all followed her with our eyes.

...

We were out at recess watching Max do tricks on her skateboard. We seemed like creeps but it didn't matter because Dustin said we could be watching anyone so it would be okay.

"There's no way that's Mad Max" Mike said as we watched her skateboard down the ramp.

"Yeah. Girls don't play video games" Will said in agreement.

"And even if they did, you can't get 750,000 points on Dig Dug" Mike said.

"Ouch, then what am I?" I asked them.

"You don't play video games" Lucas said.

"Uh but I still watch all waste away on them. So it does kinda count and stop being sexist" I said as I crossed my arms at them.

"It's impossible" Mike said going back to Max could not be Mad Max.

"But her name is Max" Lucas pointed out.

"So what?" Mike asked.

"So, how many Maxes do you know?" Lucas asked us.

"I don't know" Mike shrugged.

"Zero. That's how many" Lucas told him.

"She shows up at school the day after with her same name breaks Dustin's top score. Yeah she is Mad Max" I said as I shoved my hands in my pockets. "I mean are you kidding me?"

"Exactly. So she's gotta be Mad Max" Lucas agreed with me.

"Plus she skateboards, so she's pretty awesome" Dustin said, I couldn't help but feel a little pang of jealousy. I mean maybe I could learn how to skateboard.

"Awesome?" Mike asked. "You haven't spoken a word to her."

"I don't have to. I mean, look at her. Shit, I've lost the target" Dustin panicked. Max was actually no where to be found. But it didn't bother me any because now Dustin doesn't have to fwan over anyone, like a lost puppy.

"Oh! There" Will said as he broke apart from us. Max, with skateboard in hand, was walking up the stairs to the back of the building. She dropped a piece of paper into the trashcan on her way up and snuck inside.

All the boys looked at eachother and ran to see what she could do dropped.

"Are y'all serious?" I called after them. I didn't bother to run but I made my way to the trashcan where they all were.

We all covered Dustin as he was  looking in the trash. Heather and her friends walked by us, we all waved to them big they gave us disgusted looks.

"Welp, there goes my shit for better friends" I joked as I faked disappointment.

"You can't get better than us" Dustin said from inside the trashcan. "Found it!" He said as he got up from the trash.

He opened it up and in big blue letters it read. "Stop spying on me, creeps" We all read allowed. And creeps had to lines under it, I couldn't help but start laughing.

"You guys are such creeps!" I said in agreement as I coudknt stop laughing.

"You were watching her too" Lucas argued with me.

"Yeah but I wasn't as bad as y'all were" I said as k let myself calm down a bit.

"Well shit" Dustin said as he threw the paper back in the trash.

"Willam Byers" I heard someone say. We all turned around and their was our principal. "Your mother's here" He announced.

We all said bye to Will and then was soon as we was eat shot we went to the other side of the school to watch him leave.

"You guys think he is okay?" Dustin asked as he watched him go to his mom's car.

"He's always weird when he was to go in." Lucas pointed out.

"I don't know. He's quiet today" Mike said.

"He's always quiet" I said as we watched the principal shut Joyce's car door and they drove away.
