Y/n POVJohnathan was going to take Will far away. I didn't hear exactly where. Nancy and Steve went to go collect heaters from the pile of stuff that we took out of the shed. El and Hopper went to go finally close the Gate. I watched as El and Mike gave their goodbyes.
I felt weird to watch so i turned around and didn't watch. I looked at the ground and chewed on my finger nail. I was nervous about how this was going to go down.
We all watched them leave before we went back at side. Max, Lucas, Mike, Dustin, Steve and I all stayed here. I was glad we didn't have to do something so dangerous. All we had to do was hold down the fort.
I went up and stood next to Mike and rested my head on his shoulder. I knew he didn't want to loose Eleven again. I could feel how bad he was hurting just watching her go.
...
I was inside the kitchen as I watched Dustin take apart the fridge to fit the dead demo-dog in. I cringed as i sat on the counter and watched.
"It should fit now" Dustin said as he took out the shelf's off the fridge.
"Is this really necessary?" Steve asked as he held the dead dog in a blanket.
"Yes, it is, okay? This is a ground-breaking scientific discovery. We can't just bury it like some common animal, okay? It's not a dog." Dustin snapped at Steve.
"All right, all right, all right." Steve said as he moved to put it in the fridge. "But you're exposing this to Mrs. Byers, all right?" Steve asked as she shoved the dog in. He failed terribly to put it in. "Christ. Help me out." Steve said as he struggled to keep the door open.
"What ma I supposed to do?" Dustin asked as he stood there and watched.
"Hey the door, man" Steve groaned as he struggled to keep himself up.
"All right, i got the door" Dustin said as he held open the door.
"Ew" I said as i got up and looked at the at the animal being squeezed in. Steve quickly shut the door before the demo-dog could fall out. He ruffled Dustin and I's hair and I pushed his hand off to fix my hair.
"Mike, would you just stop pacing already?" I heard Lucas ask, my ears perked from my brother's name and I walked into the living room.
"You weren't in there, okay, Lucas? That lab is swarming with hundreds of those dogs" Mike ranted as he worried for Elevens safety.
"Demo-dogs!" Dustin shouted from the kitchen and then walked away.
"The chief will take care of her" Lucas said as he tried to calm Mike down. I know Hopper won't let anything happened to El.
"Like she needs protection" Max said clearly knowing what Eleven is capable of.
"Listen, dude, a coach calls a play in a game, bottom line, you execute it. All right?" Steve said, I gave him a look not sure where he was going with this.
"Okay, first of all, this isn't some stupid sports game" Mike said and I nodded my head. "And second, we're not even in the game. We're on the bench" Mike told him. It was pretty boring just sitting here cleaning.
"So my point is..." Steve said as we all waited for him to finish. "Right, yeah, we're on the bench, so, uh, there's nothing we can do." Steve said as he threw a towel over his shoulder.
"That's not entirely true" Dustin said as I looked at him. "I mean these Demo-dogs, they have a hive mind. When they ran away from the bus, they were called away." Dustin said as he looked around to all of us.
"If we get their attention..." Lucas said as he trailed off.
"Maybe we can draw them from the Lab" I said as I looked at everyone else.
"Clear a path to the gate" Mike said as he thought about El closing the gate safely.
"Yeah, and then we all die" Steve said as I rolled my eyes at him.
"That's one point of view" I told him as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"No, that's not a point of view. That's a fact" Steve said as he was trying to argue with me.
"I got it" Mike said as he pushed past me. He ran to the kitchen and we all followed him. He made it to one of the drawlings on the wall. "This is where the chief dug his hole. This is our way into the tunnel. So..." Mike said as he moved to the hallway and pointed to another spot. "Here, right here, this is like a hub. So you got all of the tunnels feeding right here" Mike said as he stood in the middle of it. "Maybe if we set this on fire..." Mike tried to say before Steve stopped him.
"Oh, yeah? That's a no" Steve quickly shut down.
"The mind flayer would call his army" Dustin said as he looked at Mike.
"They'd all come to stop us" Lucas said not seeing how this is a good idea .
"We circle back to the exit" Mike said from the ground.
"Guys" Steve said, and no one listened to him.
"By the time they realize we're gone—" Mike said before I cut him off.
"El would be at the gate" I said as I looked at everyone else.
"Hey. Hey! Hey!" Steve said as he clapped his hands at us. "This is not happening." Steve said as he put his hands on his hips.
"But-" Mike tried to say before he was cut off by Steve.
"No. No. No buts. I promised I'd keep you shitheads safe, and that's exactly what I plan on doing. We're staying here. On the bench. And waiting for the starting team to do their jobs. Does everybody understand?" Steve said as Max sighed, Lucas crossed his arms, Dustin looked disappointed and I rolled my eyes at Steve.
"This isn't a stupid sports game" Mike said once again.
"I said does everybody understand that?" Steve asked as he threw his hands up. "I need a yes." Steve said as no one said anything. There was a car in the distance and it was coming to the house pretty fast.
