When someone is crying, of course, the noble thing to do is to comfort them. But if someone is trying to hide their tears, it may also be noble to pretend you do not notice them."

Jeremiah
Amy seemed better today than she did yesterday, but I can't forget the look she had in her eyes this morning, but I decided to drop it.
"Jeremiah?" I heard Ms. Thayer called me, and I looked up.
"Do you know the answer?" She asked me, and I looked at the board trying to see what she was talking about.
"Um, wouldn't it be the Europeans?" I asked her hoping I was right.
"Exactly." She said and went back to what she was doing. I was about to bring my focus back to Amy when Austin tapped me on the shoulder. Austin and I have been friends since Kindergarten. He was one of my best friends in school, and he's the only one who knows that I like Amy.
"What?" I turned back and whispered.
"Here." He said before handing me a piece of paper, I took it from him and put it in my notebook so the teacher wouldn't know what it was.
"Wanna have lunch with me today?"
I looked around trying to figure out who sent it to me and of course it was none other than Jessica. Jessica was the girl you would consider as popular, but she wasn't as conceited as the others. She's been asking me out since I can remember and every time I tell her that it was because of my dad that I couldn't date her, which was partially true. But she made a smart move by asking me to eat lunch with her because I was in school and there would be no excuses. I looked at her, smiled, and nodded my head. I could hear she and her friends talking after I turned my head back in front of the room. I spent the rest of class thinking of no one else but Amy. I wondered if she was thinking about me in the class next door. I suddenly wished I hadn't said yes to Jessica. As soon as class ended, Jessica came to me.
"Did you really say yes?" She asked me.
"Yea, it was you right?" I told her and she smiled before going back to her friends.
"So do you want to walk with me or should I meet you there?" She asked walking back to me.
"Um, meet me there." I told her before leaving the room to go find Amy.
I looked everywhere but there was no sign of her until Austin came to me.
"I heard she was called into the principal's office." He told me already knowing who I was looking for.
"Really? Why? Is she in trouble?" I asked him.
"No, something about her mother and a letter, I don't know." I told him I would meet him at lunch before leaving to go wait for Amy outside the office.
I don't know how long I waited there until Amy walked out.
"Amy is everything okay?" I asked her, but I noticed that she was crying.
"Amy? What happened?" She looked at me and walked away shaking her head, I was about to follow her, but she went into the girl's bathroom with a paper in her hand.
I waited outside of the bathroom, but she never came out, so I went to lunch to tell Jessica I couldn't eat with her today.
"But you said you would." She said looking at me.
"I know I'm sorry but something came up, so maybe tomorrow?" I could see the disappointment in her eyes, but she agreed with me anyway.
I went back outside the bathroom until Amy walked out. She had cleaned her face, but she was still holding the paper, she seemed surprised to see me there. I didn't say anything I walked towards her and hugged her.
"What's going on?" I asked her.
"Nothing." She told me, but I could always tell when she was lying.
"Amy, what happened? Why are you crying?" I asked her.
"I told you it was nothing." She said, "I'm going to eat before class" She said.
"Okay, let's go." I told her.
We left, and she sat by herself instead of sitting with her friends. I was about to go to her when I noticed that Vanessa was already at the table with her. About two minutes later I saw Vanessa hugging her and they made plans to meet up later with the rest of the girls. I waited until Vanessa left and walked towards her.
"Jeremy." I heard Austin called me.
"What?" I yelled back.
"Where are you going?" he said. I could see the smile on his face, and I smiled back.
"I won't tell daddy on you." He said winking at me. I walked towards her, and she was reading the paper she was holding. I sat across her and said nothing until lunch was over.
