Jeremiah

I quickly sat up straight after Amy told me that she was planning on leaving.

"You're what? What are you talking about? What would your mom have to say about that?" I asked her.

"If I tell you, please promise me you won't say anything to anyone." She told me with tears running down her face and I realized that whatever it was, it was bad.

"I promise." I told her.

"My mother left me." She said and I rushed to her side again

" I'm sorry. What happened? when did she left?" I asked her.

"On second thought, how about you meet me here after school. We can eat, and I'll tell you everything, but please don't say anything to anyone."

"Okay, I won't. You want me to stay here with you for the day?" I asked her.

"No thanks. I'm going, just give me five minutes." She said. We went to school and to my surprise Amy acted and looked like someone who was fine, who's mother did not just leave. She was nice to everyone in general and of course everyone loved her. I noticed her talking to Vanessa at lunch and whatever that was said was not good because before you know it they were both mad at each other and walked away in different directions. I waited for her after class and after school she was waiting for me outside the school.

"So you want to tell me what happened between you and Vanessa?" I asked her

"She didn't take the news so well. Wait she's coming." Amy told me, and I noticed Vanessa walking towards us.

"Amy can I talk to you for a second." She told Amy. The girls went off to the side but I could hear what was being said.

"I'm sorry I got mad at you. I'm sorry for everything that's happening right now." I heard Vanessa told Amy.

"It's okay." I heard Amy told Vanessa.

"Sooo, can I come with you?" I heard Vanessa told Amy smiling.

"What! I'm not leaving to get away from school, like you're trying to."Amy said smiling at her best friend. They talked a little while longer and made plans to meet up later today since Vanessa knew a person who could help with Lord –knows-what. I waited until Amy could get close enough to me before taking her hands, she looked at me and then pulled away.

"I'm sorry." I told her.

"It's fine, but I don't want to get you in trouble." She said taking my hand back in hers. We walked home and I was about to go in the house behind her when she stopped me.

"Your dad's watching you. I think you better go in before coming back here, come with your school work. I'll help you if you want." I nodded my head before crossing the street and going in my own house.

"Hi Dad," I said.

"Son, what were you doing inside the house this morning?" he asked me without even saying hi back.

"I knocked on the door, but she didn't come out, so I went in to see if she was okay." I told him trying to keep my voice steady.

"She is not your responsibility, I want you to stay away from her, her house, and her family. I don't want you involved in anything that includes her." He said rising his voice.

"Why not? She's not the one who killed uncle Devin, dad." I told him, " It wasn't her." I said.

"Shut up, what do you know? I'm your father, and I said you're not going there anymore, no more picking her up, by now I'm pretty sure she knows where the school is." He told me.

"Why do you hate her so bad? Uncle's death had nothing to do with her or her family." I told him.

"It had everything to do with her, if only her selfish bastard father had had the heart to save him, he would have been here." He said his voice breaking.

"Give it up Dad. It's life... get over it. You weren't in the jet with them... How would you know what really happened? This whole time you've been holding a grudge in your heart, and you call yourself a reverend? And besides, you got what you wanted. Your prayers have been answered. Her father died just like you wanted him to. Do me a favor and get over your damn self." I told him raising my voice and getting angry.

"You will not talk to me like that. I never hold any grudges against anyone and I certainly did not pray for her father to die." He told me.

"Dad please, you think I'm stupid? Even she noticed how you've changed after what happened, and to make it worst you even let her catch you many times looking at their house and smiling. You can't fool anyone. I heard the calls you were making concerning her father. That night you thought I was asleep I heard you on the phone asking about his whereabout." I told him, and I could tell he was shocked.

"You will stay away from them. From now on you're not allowed near her or her house."

"And what happens if I do go over there?."

"You might as well stay there because I wouldn't allow you back in this house after disobeying me." I walked up the stairs, grabbed my bag with some clothes in it, enough for tonight and for school tomorrow morning, and left.

"Where do you think you're going?" he asked me.

"Bye dad." I told him before I made my way across the street to knock on Amy's door.
