She remained quiet as I opened the door to the hallway and stepped out. For a moment, Keira hesitated about whether she should follow me, but then she quickly adjusted her T-shirt and left the apartment.
The burgundy red walls made the corridor look dark, making it nearly impossible to discern if it was day or night. There were no windows in the hallway, nor in some of the rooms.
Most vampires didn't like the sun because our skin started to burn after a short exposure, and it took time for the burns to heal. My skin got used to the sunlight through the centuries, so I wasn't afraid of it anymore, but most of the vampires avoid sunlight.
"Come with me." I gestured for her to go to the door.
"So, you kidnapped me and took me to the hotel?" She raised an eyebrow after looking around. "Why?"
"Did you expect dark and nasty dungeons or Dracula's castle?" I chuckled.
"Honestly, yes, that is exactly what I expected from a vampire."
"Well, that seems like a vampire from people's fairytales. Reality is different," I admitted, and we headed to the elevator at the back of the hallway.
"Does the hotel belong to you?" The blonde kept questioning me as we waited for the elevator.
Her curiosity left me surprised, and I couldn't help but break into a subtle smile. I have to admit, I fully expected her to be furious about being turned into a vampire, but instead, she remained calm, as if she already understood exactly what was happening and why she was here. Maybe her subconscious was adjusting more easily because her memories had been altered. Fragments of her old memories were still saved in her brain they just needed to be brought back by compelling her to remember.
But I couldn't do that, and that felt terrible.
"Yes." I answered shortly. "Almost the whole vampire population of the city lives here. It's like our nest."
"Unbelievable," Keira muttered and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
We were on our way to Anastasia's apartment. It felt strange to let Keira feed on my donor, but I wanted her first feeding experience to be the best, so it had to be Ana. I still felt guilty about erasing Ana's memories of me, but there was no other way to keep Ana out of the way. Ana knew about Keira and who she was, and her attention for Keira would have brought more chaos, and no one needed that right now.
I knocked on the door, and we waited in silence. After a few seconds, Anastasia opened it, dressed in a stunning red silk dress that clung to her figure, her long brown hair falling beautifully down her neck.
"Hello, darling," I said, pressing a soft kiss to her palm. "I have someone special for you today. You're going to enjoy this." We both turned our gazes toward Keira.
"Welcome, Keira." Anastasia smirked at her.
"I'm not into this kind of thing." Keira took a step back and shook her head. Did she think that we were going to have sex? That would be too much for me to handle right now. I bet we would have fun, though.
"Believe me, you are." I grinned. I went behind Anastasia and pulled her hair away from her neck.
She closed her eyes and sighed when I ran my fingers through her neck. Our donors were compelled so that they felt euphoric while we were drinking their blood, so Ana always felt amazing as I fed on her blood.
"You need to drink her blood," I said after Keira kept staring at me.
"I can't." Keira closed her eyes. It was a bit surprising that fresh blood did not affect Keira because usually, newly turned vampires lose control immediately. "It's disgusting."
