Arius brought his father's book and threw it to me, causing me to catch it with unnatural speed. The dust spread out directly into my face, making me narrow my eyes.
"Choose something before we begin. I want you to cast some spells today," he said, stretching his arms. "Cassius will help you to warm up, and I will get ready for the fight." With those words, he went to the fridge and took a blood bag out of it.
I turned the pages until my eyes noticed unknown shrift. I could understand the language although I had never learned it before. Which felt really strange.
Paralyze Incantation: A magical spell that immobilizes targets with mystical restraints, rendering them incapable of movement or action. It is most effective when combined with an execution spell to defeat the enemy.
The other sentence was written in a strange symbol language, but for my surprise I could also understand it.
"Well, blondie. Wanna get busted?" Cassius came closer to me
"Try me." I placed the book on the floor and twisted my neck.
Cassius began moving around the hall with incredible speed, too fast for my eyes to follow. Suddenly, he struck me with tremendous force, and in the next instant, I was on the ground. I felt my anger rising, and I longed to catch him.
"Uhhhh," I hissed through clenched teeth as I forced myself to stand. I
I narrowed my eyes, concentrating my gaze until my mind slowed down his movements.I could finally see him moving around like an annoying fly.
I followed him until I was close enough to catch him. I grabbed his wrist, wrenched his body around, and hurled him with all my strength toward the opposite side of the hall. He literally flew through the air but managed to land on his feet, skidding across the floor until he finally stopped.
"This is so much fun." He laughed and pulled his curls away from his face.
Cassius launched his attack again, but this time he used his superpower. I had no idea about this ability until now, as it was the first time he'd used it. A terrible, piercing sound tore through my ears, forcing me to shut my eyes and clutch my head. It was so unbearable that it felt like my head might explode. I felt blood begin to trickle from my nose and gritted my teeth. After a few agonizing moments, I finally managed to stand and extended my palm.
"Tenebris duratus et in inferno maneat." I said it with such confidence, as if I had cast that spell before.
"What?!" Cassius froze in place and snapped his brows. "Unfair."
My palm began to glow with a golden light, and I felt a strange desire to hurt Cassius. Even the fact that I could injure him badly didn't stop me from casting another spell.
"Lux daemones."I whispered those words, but I had no idea where they had come from. The same white light spread from my palm directly toward Cassius.
"Tuenda corpora lumine." Arrius appeared in front of me, and some strange blurry field absorbed magic.
Arius blocked my attack using a protective shield. I shook my head because I couldn't understand why I wanted to hurt Cas.
"Thank you, Cassius," Airius said without turning his gaze from me. "I will take it from here."
"Sorry." I said while gazing at Cassius.
"I will get you next time." He winked at me and simply disappeared from the hall.
It felt strange, yet in a good way, to realize I could speak and understand another language. My mind couldn't grasp how I had come to learn Latin. Slowly, I began to truly believe there was something within me that I had never experienced before. Despite the oddness of it all, I felt incredibly strong in that moment.
