Keira left the hall without saying a word, leaving an eerie silence behind. Arius looked around and couldn't believe that she had turned them all into humans.
He had never thought that it would be possible.
Arius anticipated that the mages without their magic would revert to their human forms. This was the point of the ritual of freedom. Yet Keira performed the ritual of cleansing, which had an impact on vampires as well. Another thing that bothered Arius's mind was whether Keira had finished the ritual of cleansing and destroyed the magic. He couldn't recall if Keira said the destruction incantation during the ritual.
After getting his emotions under control, Arius noticed Zaid struggling to stand up. Without hesitation, he ran to Zaidh and looked at his injuries.
"Let me try something," Arius said.
Arius realized that he should be able wield magic now. Recalling a healing spell Magnus had once taught him, Arius quickly cast the incantation over Zaidh.
The injuries on Zaidh's body slowly began to heal, making Arius sigh in relief. After a few moments, Zaidh was completely healed and sighed deeply.
"Move." Zaidh hissed, pushing Arius away from him. "Where is that witch!?"
Arius understood why Zaidh felt so frustrated, but at this moment, there was nothing he could change. Despite all of Zaidh's terrible behavior and direct hatred toward Arius, he still regarded Zaidh as his brother and wanted to help him.
"Zaidh, please let me help you."
"That's your problem, Arius," he snapped and glared at him. "You want to help even if no one asks you to. If you're so desperate to help me, then turn me back into a vampire."
"We don't even know if it's possible."
"Then make it possible, " his voice crackled with rage. "You're the one who makes everything possible."
Arius couldn't understand why Zaidh was so desperate to become a vampire again. After living for over two thousand years, they had experienced everything imaginable. The constant thirst, the relentless pursuit by inquisitors, and countless other burdens had haunted them every moment.
Now, those torments were finally behind them, offering the chance to live a normal life-the life they should have had long ago. But for some reason, Zaidh seemed far from thrilled by this idea.
"We must return to the hotel." Arius gazed around, looking for Cassius. "Keira is somewhere out there, and we need to get her under control."
"If you had let me deal with her, none of this would have happened." Zaidh pushed through Arius.
"She would be dead now if I had entrusted her to you."
"She was supposed to be dead. That was pur plan, brother." Zaidh clenched his fists. "But you failed because of your stipid feelings."
"You're just jealous that I was the one trusted to guide her through all of this." Arius grabbed and squeezed his shoulder. "I warned you not to mix in."
Without saying anything else, Arius went near Cassius, who was lying on the floor, unconscious. He sighed in relief when he heard that Cassius was breathing. Nearby lay Cindy's remains, which were almost completely burned.
It seemed that no one else from their group had survived. Nailah and Magnus had left immediately, and Arius hadn't tried to stop them. They wanted to live a normal life and seized the chance to escape.
"What the fuck." Cassius sat and grabbed his head. "Why I'm feeling like I'm mortal again?"
"Because you are," Arius responded shortly and they began to walk to the exit.
